Outfit Post: IFFBoston Style + Instagrams

This past weekend, the man and I took in some independent films at IFFBoston which is our local film festival, held every April. We always try to take in at least one movie a year, sometimes two. This year, we made a day of it to take in the Documentary Shorts package, featuring the South Street Diner screening of the lovely Melissa Dowler (and her hubby) whom I met at the Boston Bloggers event and another favorite of ours, Cat Cam.

Anyhoo, we spent the day checking out some movies, doing a little shopping and drinking beers, many, many beers. So what did I wear this whole time? Well, I am certainly glad that you asked. I brought my camera and forced the man to take outfit post pictures while we were out and about. I am 100% positive that he was embarrassed but I did not care.

Did I document my day in Instagram? Well, I did the best I could ;-) whilst having a few daylight beers... here's some of what I snapped and shared.

What did you guys do this weekend?

Obsession Alert: Zakary le Stele Autumn/Winter 2012

This Zakary le Stele bodysuit is everything... I love it, I want it, am I crazy? Mostly I want it to look good on these short legs, but alas these legs aren't growing any longer. Le sigh. Anyway, I had the chance to look at the Autumn/Winter 2012 lookbook and while I thought it, as a whole, was solid, this bodysuit... well, take a look.

I Got In!

Let me tell you about the day I had yesterday. I woke up late and in a foul mood. It was a "wet bun" day, something my cousin and I call a day where there was no time to do our hair. After getting into the elevator with a friend from my floor, we got into a verbal altercation with the biggest wench that lives in our building because, well the lady was being a total wench as she was getting onto the elevator. (She actually yelled after us about farting in the elevator because my friend had her egg sandwhich in there... yeah, mature). That mini cat fight had me reeling on my car ride to work. Then of course a rock hit my windshield and I could see that little sparkle that meant it got a good chip in. Fast forward to lunch time, I ventured out to get a much needed Starbucks fix and hey, girl, hey, my car wouldn't move (because apparently a brake shoe fell off) so I had to have my car towed in the afternoon, the man had to get me at work and I missed my design class. It was a banner day let me tell you.... then I got the mail.

How my "Klout" Helps Accessorize

I have mixed emotions about Klout "The Standard for Influence". On the one hand, I think it's kind of a confusing way of measuring one's social media majesty and influence on the nets. On the other hand, I do enjoy when my score goes up, like when Prabal Gurung retweeted me, my score sky rocketed... well, at least I think that's why my score went up (see previous comment about Klout being mildly confusing). As my score has increased and my "expertise" has been honed in on ( am currently most influential about blogging, shoes and cosmetics), I have been gathering some pretty useful "perks". The best perk to date was a $25 credit to Boticca.com. Imagine my surprise when I saw my crushworthy new faves EABurns on this fantastic jewelry/accessory site. They had some of my favorite items that I had been putting off ordering so it was decided almost immediately that today would be the day that I invited a little neon into my jewelry box. Shipping was free and the cost? Well, the cost was $28 USD so guess who only paid $3 for some obsession alert jewelry? Yep, that was this girl. I guess my "Klout" came in handy on this one. What do you think? Has your Klout score gotten you any rad deals/freebies?

My Dream Wedding Shoes... and Why I Didn't Get Them

In the quest of having the most perfect and memorable wedding ever, it must be said, that a bride's shoes must never be overlooked. This is my belief anyhow. It is this belief that has had me on a quest to find the Valentino shoes that Jessica Biel wore to their Spring 2012 show in October of 2011. You may remember this post and then my reminder in my wedding shoe post about how much I was/am in love with these shoes. To say that I was/ am obsessed would be an understatement. That is how much I wanted these shoes... and in the end, I had to let them go.

River Island Review, Another UK Favorite?

I was recently introduced to River Island, a UK based clothier, that has some really interesting and funky clothes, none of which I would likely find stateside. River Island has nearly 300 stores across the UK, Ireland and internationally throughout Asia, the Middle East and Europe. But alas, not in the US as of late. Since I am always wary of a new website, especially ones overseas, I like to wait for a good deal on shipping or a percentage off or something, can you dig? So anyway, River Island was offering 48 hours of FREE international shipping, so how could I resist? I always lean towards lower priced sale items on my first purchase from a "new to me" site, you know, so that the risk is relatively low. Check out what I thought of the whole process.

Inspired by Vintage as Usual

I was going through some boxes in my quest to ever organize my life, and I came upon a book that I had taken out of my college library about 7 years ago. I know this because the date it was due back was April 02, 2004. Needless to say that I never returned it.* This book was A History of Fashion by Madge Garland, a Picture Guide to its Creators and Creations. You can understand why I was drawn to this book in the first place. After thumbing through it again, I was immediately reminded what I love about fashion, especially vintage fashion. Fashion has the ability to affect me and more importantly, inspire me.

Bleached Denim, a DIY

You might think that I am crazy but I am kind of really digging the Isabel Marant Spring 2012 stuff that Rhianna was recently spotted sporting on her "Battleship" tour of the world (or so it seems). Once I pinpointed what it was exactly that I liked, I determined that it was, GASP!, the bleached denim look. But do I have $435.00 for a shirt? At press time, I do not have $435.00 to spend. So what's a girl to do? You go it dude. She's got to do it herself.

Want to see what I worked on? Obviously being veeeeery careful with bleach in my home haha...

Outfit Post: Bachelorette Party Style

So this past Friday, my good friend Traci was to have her Bachelorette Party. We weren't going crazy or anything, and I was going to have to go straight from work, so the look had to fit both scenarios. Thankfully it was casual Friday so I didn't have too much trouble. So what did I go with?

Sally Hansen Diamond Strength

Anytime I go into a Walgreens, CVS or Rite Aid, Mama has to check out the nail polishes and perhaps add one (or in this case two) to the collection. I was immediately drawn to the Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Collection, mainly the Garter Toss (a mint color) but then inspired to add the Jewel Overcoat in Multi-Faceted. I normally don't purchase Sally Hansen products, don't know why, but in this case, I just had to have them.

I used the Garter Toss as a base and then proceeded to use the jewel overcoat on top. You might remember my love of the Essie Luxeffects overcoat, so I am sad to say that this didn't live up to those expectations for a glitter topcoat. The thing that made me want to buy the topcoat (all the different colors/sizes glitters) is what made this such a pain in the @$$ to get on evenly. In order to make your nails look even and not clumpy, it was a chore to move the glitter all around before the overcoat dried. What this resulted in was a really thick topcoat. I might use it again but I am always in a hurry to do my nails and this wasn't the best option for that. The end result was decent. Given the chose between Essie and Sally Hansen... for now, I'll gravitate towards the Essie, thank you.

Black and Blues Trending, I Think

Royal blue has always been on of my favorite colors. Actually, almost any blue is one of my favorites because, well being that I am blond and blue eyed, these shades always tend to make me look prettier (which is always a goal). So imagine how delighted I was to see some recent celebrity looks where my favorite color ever, has been paired with black... and is therefore the two colors together are trending? I think? Mama doesn't care either way... she likes it!

Visit ALDO Shoes to shop the new SS12 collection! They've captured the height of the summer season in heart-stopping slow motion, because they know what it's like to wish it would stretch out forever. The ordinary becomes perfect. The everyday becomes infinite. And in up to 2000 frames per second, summer might just not stop.

I am reminded of a time where it was SO HOT in NYC that I had to take refuge in an ALDO store's air conditioning... but then it doesn't take much for me to get into some new shoes!

Brooklyn Decker, a New Style Crush?

Brooklyn Decker, best known for being a swimsuit model and Andy Rodick's wife, is apparently in the new movie "Battleship"*, also starring Rihanna, so who knows how this film will do, domestically or internationally... but I digress. The reason I bring this whole thing up, is that this movie has given Miss Brooklyn Decker more time on the red carpet, and of course, now that I have seen more of her, I have developed a new style crush. Swoon.

What's in my Bag this Spring?

I don't know about the rest of you, but I do know that the contents of my handbag/totebag/backpack changes with the seasons. Sure, there is always the year round mainstays but with the change in temperatures, in what we are wearing and what we need for on the go, I have to make sure I am prepared for any occasion... especially this year, being that it's 2012 and we may very well see the end of days, if the Mayans have any say in it. So what's in my Spring bag you ask?

Are You Dye-ing to DIY?

So I recently made a list on Skinnyscoop (which by the way, you should most def check out) about sprucing up your wardrobe without spending tons of money. One of my tips was to drop some of your stained or dull clothes into a dye bath, basically breathing new life into said clothes. I got some feedback via the list itself, Twitter and the blog post. The general consensus was what a great idea it was, but that people assume that it's hard. I am here to show you how cheap and easy it really is.

OM: I'm Freaking Out Man

This week has been a busy one, to say the least. As of late, I have taken on a lot of "things I want to do", am planning a wedding, am in two other weddings this year, am going to fashion design school and all while trying to lose weight. Ugh. On Tuesday of this week, Mama had a mini melt down.

Boston Blogger Event

Last night was the Boston Bloggers event at the Lansdowne in Boston. While I was apprehensive at first, being that it was my first meet and greet, I ended up really enjoying the atmosphere and wishing it had lasted longer so I could meet more people. Two hours goes really quick when you're having fun.

Zooshoo.com, a Real Deal?

Shoesday: In my quest to find more shoes like the ones that have made me famous (in the Northeast and only in circles that I travel in), I happened upon the site Zooshoo.com. I couldn't believe my eyes. Were these prices for real? Was the selection legit? Even more important, would the shoes be comfortable or would they be those shoes you buy for the deal that never get worn because they are like plastic? Hrumph.... what to do, what to do?

I didn't buy (right away); I browsed. Whilst browsing, I saw these babies. Not by the same brand I was looking for (Shoe Republic of LA) but they had the same platform wedge effect that I had been searching out.

Graduate Program Application: COMPLETE

I guess I might be putting myself out there a little by talking about an application that is not yet been accepted, nor has the entrance into the program been awarded to me but I guess I wanted to share with you all the exciting things that are transpiring (aside from planning a wedding). Let me start over.

A couple of weeks ago, we went over beading samples and hand stitches in class. For the most part, these are things that I am extremely comfortable with. I have embroidered and the like in the past. In walking around class, the girl next to me brought the instructor over to look at what I had been working on. I would say that she was impressed, well, because she said she was.

Just the beginning of the beading
