Tasty Tidbits

We've been busy with Fall activities, Halloween and making stuff for special people over here in the Propah household. Some tasty tidbits for you, since I think these are all well worth your time.
  • It's still Breast Cancer awareness month: I;m sure you are used to seeing pink ribbons all over the place, alerting you to the fact. Tips on early detection and reducing your risk of Breast Cancer via Avon. Make sure you are taking your health into your own hands, literally.
  • Been having lots of conversations lately about blogging + sponsored posts + and all of the things and one thing that piqued my interest this week was a post that Wil Wheaton wrote basically, to say, that writers/bloggers/creatives etc should NOT be providing their work for free. It's amazing to me how often someone from a PR firm or brand will contact me and want me to write something up for the "exposure". When I first started blogging, sure, I wrote somethings for the "exposure" but tbh, that exposure rarely did anything for me. If I am going to do the work, I want to be compensated for it. Unless, of course, I totally love you and want to help, then all bets are off. ;-) It's a good article. (via Wil Wheaton)
  • I didn't get a chance to watch this week's GOP debate but I saw enough of the aftermath to know that I have no intention of voting Republican... but this isn't about my political persuasions, this is about my Psychology minor ("Hey, that Psych major  deal, that philosophy major thing, that's great, it's important to have liberal arts... but realize, you're going to be working at Chick-fil-A.") I read many posts today on the "diss" that Jeb Bush threw out at Psychology majors + Philosophy majors.  This post from The Mighty, shows lots of successful Psychology majors fighting back that stereo type that it's a a simple major that people coast through. (via The Mighty)
  • Cold Weather is coming and I need to buff up my fitness gear so that I am actually motivated to keep running + going to yoga but all I want to buy is this Mexican Blanket for my savasana. Does this make me a slacker? How do you keep motivated in the cold weather?
  • Please vote for my girl, Kate's Simply Mixed Berry Frozen Berry-Orange Mimosa in the Better Homes and Gardens Fresh Files. She is super special and I am 110% that the drink is delicious + she promised if she won, she would have a big berry mimosa party, of which I would invite myself to right away. (via BHG)
  • And a fond farewell to America's Next Top Model. I have spent countless hours watching full seasons of ANTM. I feel like I know Tyra and I can also spot a former contestant in bit roles, like a pro. I will miss you ANTM. You have been there for me many a sick day. I will forever be thankful to Hulu for having all seasons on deck for me, even the British v American, which I thought was weak. (via The Cut)

Tasty Tidbits

This weekend we were really did a good job of balancing productivity around the house and also some fun family time. We celebrated both my husband and America's birthday by just sticking around the homestead. We got frozen yogurt, grilled up some steaks, drank grapefruit shandy's and spent time together. We let the baby run around at the park and he let us have some down time by taking a few 2+ hour naps (hallelujah!)

I can't wait until my kid/s is old enough to do yoga with me in a meaningful way. Right now, he doesn't really follow directions and is currently going through a phase of willful disobedience... I know, so soon, right? In any event, the opportunities to have fun with kids and yoga are growing and growing. Maybe next year we can use Baby, You're a Firework, to have a little fun with 4th of July yoga. (via Yoga Dork)

News broke this past week that Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck are getting divorced. I can't put into words exactly what it is that bothers me so much, about a couple that I don't even know... Refinery 29 does a pretty good job of explaining how I feel. I guess I have just watched too much Alias and Voyage of the Mimi to be able to look at their relationship in a matter of fact manner... but let's just say that I'm sad. (via Refinery 29)

If you haven't visited The Mighty, please do yourself a favor and spend a little time ready any of the posts. This site is dedicated to the human spirit, really. They feature a lot of eye opening pieces about disabilities as well as interesting perspectives on conditions that may have stereotypes in society. When you read their tagline "We believe in the power of stories, the strength of communities and the beauty of the human spirit.", you'll be sold.

Please tell me that this picture of the royal children doesn't melt your heart? If it doesn't, then you don't have a heart. (via Us Weekly)

Tasty Tidbits

The grey and pink checkered Gymboree shirt has certainly paid for itself over and over. The Propah Baby looks like a little ham/ handsomest baby ever, from pictures at the Mall, to brunch to this past weekend's Post Easter lunch at my Aunt's.

In case you were wondering which live action reboot that Disney is working on after the success of Cinderella and the forthcoming Beauty and the Beast, wellp, it's Mulan! Can't say I am upset that this is the new direction for Disney. My husband is always quick to remind me that Disney and Pixar are two different studios so I can't continue to lump them together as successful. I am happy that the Disney studio is seeing success on it's own. (via The Hollywood Reporter)

This photographer is trying to change how we all view males as a the primary caretaker. If nothing else, it's a great series that has made a case for paternal leave being important just as maternity leave is. (via Cosmopolitan)

I'll keep reminding you, especially since there is less than two weeks left!  Yoga Reaches Out New England Yogathon is taking place Sunday April, 26th at the Field House at Gillette Stadium. I joined my yoga studio's team and am raising money for Yoga Reaches OutBen Speaks Louder than Words and Boston Children's Hospital. I have never done two 2 hour sessions in a day but I think it will be super fun and for a great cause! Want to help me secure a mat space and also help these awesome charities? You can visit my personal page here to make a donation of any size!

People with Down Syndrome pose for stunning portraits meant to raise awareness and show that people with Down Syndrome are diverse and unique just like everyone else in the world. (via Sigella)

When my spending freeze is up, I think I may welcome the warm weather with something along the lines of these Unionbay floral sandals. I am certainly not going to spend willy nilly but these may be a nice treat for this Mama.

48 Summer Movies We Can't Wait to See ... perhaps I want to see them all because I have a baby and would have to get a sitter and I can't go to the movies whenever I please anymore.... but I WILL see Jurassic World. (via EW.com)

Tasty Tidbits

So my dog has been using everything that is lying around for the baby. The boppy is now a head pillow. Stuffed monkeys are chew toys. You get the idea. The baby himself is also a new person to give doggy kisses too... so that's cute. Also, I am thinking I want to get a cut and color to look like Debbie Harry. Are we down with that?

The Tap Tap Tap Concealer method is a must try. I am always bummed at how quickly I run out of concealer but turns out that I have been applying it all wrong! (via Marie Claire)

So many have performed the classic songs from Sound of Music but besides the original, I was pretty much obsessed with Lady Gaga's version from The Oscars. And then Julie Andrews gave her a long hug. Cue Tears. Here is a round up of all the performances for the Sound of Music 50th Anniversary (Via People)

I'll keep reminding you: Yoga Reaches Out New England Yogathon is taking place Sunday April, 26th at the Field House at Gillette Stadium. These LOFT sunglasses are my new jam. I have gotten SO many compliments on them and I have, seriously, never really gotten compliments on sunglasses. These are definitely going in a case and being taken care of so they can stay with me forever and ever.

I'm sorry, but making the rounds this week on the nets is Kylie Jenner's makeup mishap, where her cleavage contouring went wrong. When I read the article, I was reminded that Kylie is 17 years old. No 17 year old should look like she does. Is that judgmental of me? I guess I am really bothered that she has already had "work" done and feels the need to alter the look of her bosoms and she hasn't even hit the legal age to buy scratch tickets. If I am ever to have a daughter, I will be keeping her under lock and key! ;-) (via Cosmo)

Tasty Tidbits

We went to my parents in NC and the baby had his first flight! He was a total champ and made me such a happy camper. You know when people look at you like "You gotta be kidding me, there's a baby on this flight"? Yeah well, there were just as many people who were like "What a good baby!". Boom, #propahbaby, Boom. Also, I went thrifting for the first time in forever. And in other news, my Mother gave my 9 month old an Oreo. So there's that.

ECS sent me a link about Stacey London's Apt because I passed up a vintage-y chair at a consignment shop and lo and behold, I should have gotten it because Stacey London has a very similar one. I called said consignment shop and sadly, it is gone. *Mouth Open Crying Emoji*

My little sister is getting married and I am Matron of Honor (Yes!). We are most definitely going with the White House Black Market Genius Convertible Bridesmaid dresses. So clever, cool and really affordable!

My opinion and Kristen Bell's opinion on Vaccinations? Pretty much identical. Yet another reason that she and I would make great friends. Along with Drew Barrymore. (via The Hollywood Reporter)

Model with Down Syndrome walks at fashion week? I am not going to lie. This made me so happy that I cried a little. I will also not lie when I tell you that any emotional dam that had been built has crumbled since the baby came. Happy and sad tears are always on stand by. (via Seventeen)

The Boston Fashionista turned me on to this very enjoyable chat. Jamie Lee Curtis interviews Sigourney Weaver. It is entertaining. (via Interview Magazine)

Tasty Tidbits

  • My weekend was a pretty productive one. I let my kid go shirtless for half of Saturday. I did some decopauge like a beast. I had a banner day for steps on my Fitbit on Sunday. And I daydreamed about making designer style blankets out of vintage fabric.
  • Unless you're living under a rock, you know that it's fashion week. Part of me likes to look at pretty pictures. Another part of me is sick of hearing about it. Another part of me threw up a little when I saw that there are now scalpers hocking passes to shows for exorbitant amounts of money IMO. I've been to Fashion Week. That sh!t is free if you're invited. The day I spend $1300 for a 15 minute fashion show? Oh wait, that won't ever happen. (via Gawker)
  • I went to Michael's this past weekend to get another rotary blade for my Olfa and guess what party people? The roof had caved in due to snow. Enough is enough when my crafting is being affected. Not to worry though, my trip was not a total waste. I beebopped on over to Ulta and got my brows did with Benefit.
  • Science confirms that Jamie Dornan will never live up to the Christian Grey of your imagination. Turns out women like reading about sex more than watching it. (via Marie Claire)
  • I'm daydreaming about our beach vacation in June and obvi have been searching for shoes. Please tell me you think these are ugly or not? I can't tell. They have a crocheted upper. I feel so out of touch with all things fashionable.
  • 19 Kids and Counting is coming back for a 9th season. And I ask Why, TLC, why?! And then I'll get sucked into an all day marathon with Jim Bob and the gang. Ugh and Jessa is so sweet. Oh and they all have kind hearts. You all know their kids will keep having kids and we will be watching them forever and ever... (via People)
  • I am seriously obsessing over the new NUDA jewelry. Gale designed my wedding jewelry and to say she is my favorite, wouldn't be far fetched. She is still waiting to be discovered by the masses so this is my contribution.
  • I'm not usually a fan of support Kickstarter's unless they are for starting something that I feel is totally worthwhile and will help people. I changed my tune a little when I saw the yoga capris from Temple Flower so I "backed 'em" in the hopes that I will get a pair at a discount oh and will help them ramp up for production. Made in the USA.
  • Is it bad that I am chomping at the bit to see what kind of sales Piperlime is going to have for Going Out of Business? It makes me feel like a fashion vulture.
