DeScience, Bringing Together Scientific Discovery and Fashion Inspiration

In my travels at Mass Art, I met a few choice people that I sparked up a friendship with, some because we had multiple classes together and others because we just clicked. No matter who they are, I was always likely to learn something or be in awe of other's creativity. One special lady that I got to know over the course of a few semesters was my friend Claire. It was last Fall that Claire let me in on a new project that she was working on with a team of others... this project is called DeScience. Imagine fashion designers and scientists coming together to collaborate on a design representing scientific research. It sounded pretty awesome to me.

"DeScience emerged with the vision of fostering collaborations between two creative worlds and creating a new one that provides science with a new language and gives fashion a new source of inspiration. It’s about bringing together distinct perspectives, ideas, and developing a new mindset that has never been explored before, where designers find inspiration in science from around the world and the outcome is the DeScience Fashion Show."

Lena Dunham's Vogue Cover and the Ridiculousness that Ensued

I am as big a fan as Lena Dunham as the next girl. I love that she embraces her realness, that she has an original voice that she isn't afraid to use. She is proud of her body and rocks whatever she wants to wear, critics be damned. The girl just landed a Vogue cover for the love of Pete! A Vogue cover, last time I checked, was not easy to come by. So to that, I say, "Major Congrats to Lena Dunham." While myself and many others were happy to congratulate her (from our laptops) on what is sure to be a feather in her cap, something she is proud of... there are others who wanted to bring her down. I am talking to you Jezebel.

Best and Worst Dressed, Golden Globes 2014

Last night's Golden Globe awards were hilarious and full of honest moments. I really enjoyed staying up past my bedtime to see all the funny bits and actually know who the winners are before the lists come out in the morning. Obvi, while I watched the awards, I was compiling all of my favorite and not so favorite looks from the night. There were some real winners but oddly enough, I felt like there were some stellar actresses that were so poorly dressed! Bad clothes happened to such good people this year... anyhoo, let me just show you my faves and nots! Be sure to weigh in on yours too!

Best

Lupita Nyong'o in Ralph Lauren, my number one top pick of the night. That color with her complexion... she looks so stunning. Though reminiscent of Gwyneth's Tom Ford number from something or other, it really is something to behold. I would be surprised if she didn't show up on every single best dressed list today.

Kate Mara in J. Mendel, this may not be every one's cup of tea but something about her new hair color and the way that this dress is draped has made this one of my top picks. Cleavage like that doesn't hurt either!

Emma Watson in Dior Couture, puh-lease girl, this is no simple red dress... are those pants under there? Is it the illusion of pants? Will we ever know? One thing is for certain, Emma looks stunning and effortless.

Epic Holiday Crafting Fail

This past week, the man and I headed down to the Carolinas... first to see my family in NC then later in the week we drove to SC to see his. It was lovely and of course we had all manner of plans to ensure that we spent our time with our families having fun and enjoying each other's company. One thing that I planned for my Mom and my sisters to do together with me is crafting, obvi a fave pastime. I had the perfect idea! My Mom mentioned to me that her Christmas dinner table was all manner of cremes and golds. The weekend before the holidays, I had seen my girl Elizabeth whip together some awesome gold glasses with simply a little gold paint, all for a blogger get together. She mentioned how easy it was and I was convinced that my fam could handle the challenge. I even went as far as to tell my Mom not to buy any gold glasses because we had it covered! Oooooor not so much....
