Xfinity's Work for Accessibility, Sponsored by Xfinity

*I was invited to an event with Xfinity to celebrate Autism Awareness Month. All opinions are my own.

Last week, I attended an event with my friends at Xfinity, this time for Autism Awareness Month and I gotta say, this wasn't just fun, it was also moving. I am not personally affected by autism but as a mother of two young boys, I know how hard it can be to raise children. It's hard to raise kids, let alone children who have developmental delays, communication challenges and sensory sensitivities. With help, families living with autism can certainly increase the quality of life for everyone- parents, kids and other family members so that everyone is able to live happier lives... so you're probably thinking, what does Xfinity have to do with families living with autism? Well, more than you'd think! Xfinity is working on a lot of great things to help families have access to technology that enriches their lives. Have a look at Anne, an Xfinity Product Market Manager, and her son Jake's story.

Did that give you the feels? It gave me the feels. At the end of the day, I just want to see everyone living happy and fulfilled lives, not matter what they're doing. Anne, along with the Xfinity team, as well as representatives from the New England Center for Children were on hand to show us in person, the great new technologies and features that Xfinity has created to help their customers. Using the Xfinity Home Camera and her cell phone+Ipad, Anne was able to have more freedom while also giving Jake more independence... and those aren't the only things that Xfinity has to offer those looking for more accessibility in their home. Looking for more security? Xfinity's Home security system will keep you connected and protected. Their completely customizable smart home devices are a game changer for parents looking for security and peace of mind... and speaking as a parent, those things are of the utmost importance.

You know Xfinity's trusted X1Voice remote? It's been a game changer for those living with disabilities and illnesses. I didn't know that and it's something that I take for granted but to think that something as simple as a remote, is giving someone more accessible entertainment, well, it's pretty amazing. In April, simply say “Autism” in your X1Voice Remote and select Autism Awareness Month to see a variety of curated content specifically for this event. They're really offering customers the robust experience that is not just about our entertainment but also about adding value to our homes in ways that we need, curated to our needs.

You can learn more about what Xfinity is doing for home entertainment as well as mobile, home security and more on their website. They really do such a great job marrying all of their different technologies so that you're able to be connected to your home through your phone and tablets, even while on the go. Be sure to keep updated on their new offerings to ensure that you're learning about exciting new features that can make your life easier! Thanks again to the folks at Xfinity for hosting me, and teaching me all about the awesome things you're doing!

PS. Right now is #Watchathon (Xfinity's annual weeklong bingefest). Xfinity customers can enjoy access to the top shows from Netflix, HBO, STARZ, NBC and more — for free with Xfinity On Demand on Xfinity TV or the Xfinity Stream app through April 22nd... looks like we have some TV to catch up, am I right?

Create an At Home Meditation + Relaxation Nook

*This post is sponsored by Cost Plus World Market. They are super psyched to help us relax more this year!

I am no expert on meditation and I need help relaxing more but one thing that I do know is that setting intentions and creating a quiet meditation space are great steps to making 2017 and more goal oriented and focused year! With the help of Cost Plus World Market, I've been working on creating this space in a sweet, quiet corner of my home. It's in this space that I can take a few moments a day to focus my energy and hopefully find a little more peace/happiness by finding that focus. I've put together some of my tips and tricks on setting intentions, setting up a comfortable area and finding inspiration in the process. Whether you supplement with spa products or by bringing a cup of tea, relaxing your way should be an important part of every day. Though these are my tips. the beauty of it is, you can tweak to create exactly what is right for you!

Creating a calm and serene area can be as easy as finding a quiet corner of your home, lighting candles and taking a moment to yourself. If you're anything like me, you want to make that little area your "own". We have a spare bedroom that I've always found relaxing, from the color we painted it to the way that the light hits each corner of the space at certain times of the day. Finding the decor to match the space was easy, since my aesthetic already swings toward Cost Plus World Market's eclectic and funky decor. I chose a small wood slice accent table, an aqua suti floor pouf and a chenille throw as the centerpiece items to my nook. I think that choosing calming, yet fun colors helped me make the space my own but if you're more into neutrals, then you can do just that. Remember, make it your own!

Adding small touches is just as important. You'll notice that I've got a sort of yoga/meditation vibe so I went with that when adding little trinkets to my nook. An amethyst druzy chunkflameless candlescrystals (amethyst, rose quartz and raw quartz), lavender + sage smudge stick and a lotus stone votive  helped to pull the small space together and encouraged a peacefulness.

This year, I've decided that setting intentions is a much better idea than having New Year's resolutions that may or may not come to fruition. Setting intentions is a great way to set your day, week, month and even year off on it's best trajectory. It can be a small intention (be kind to everyone you meet today) to something much larger (I want to see myself excel in my work this year).

I think a great idea for setting intentions, then keeping them as reminders, is to use a jar or something similar to keep them for easy access. I snagged a jar from Cost Plus World Market, quickly hand painted the word "intent" and started filling my jar with intentions for better living. This isn't something to stress about. Your intention for the day can be a word, a phrase, a quote from someone else... the point is that you're setting a path for what you want to see for yourself. If you need inspiration, one of my favorite kickstarters is the Art of Attention: Yoga Deck from Elena Brower (a thoughtful Yoga instructor). Each card can speak to you on a different day and perhaps strike the cord that you needed to think about. The Hamsa card holder is ABSOLUTELY PERFECT to keep a meaningful card at eye level for as long as you need to see it.

If you take the time to relax, breathe and make time for yourself you might be surprised how you're more apt to be inspired in your every day, rather than succumbing to stress. When you're constantly worrying, it's hard sometimes to let the good in... or at least in my experience. Meditation or even sitting with your thoughts for five minutes a day can make all the difference in resetting your mindset and improving your attitude. Find joy in the area that you create for yourself. Your corner of the house can be off limits to the kids or you can share; just find what makes you happy!

What are your tips and tricks for finding your happiness at home? Do you have a relaxation nook? Snag some of my faves for your personal space below!

Capital One Boston Live Event

I was invited to attend the Capital One #CapXTalk and while this is a partnership with them, all of the following is 100% authentic and honest, I promise! Don't know what kind of panel discussion that Capital One could have that would be of interest to me? Well, being that it was Giving Tuesday and the theme of the discussion was on Investing and Impacting the Community for Good. Now doesn't that seem like something right up my alley? Well, yes it was. I'll be honest, I enjoyed the discussion a lot more than I thought I would. The #CapXTalk panel discussion is part of Capital One’s continued growth in Boston and ongoing efforts to reimagine banking. Reimaging banking, not something I thought I would write about... but just walking into the Capital One Cafe concept on Boylston Street, I was pretty stoked that there was a place like this out there (and 5 and counting locations in and around Boston with new ones opening soon in Lynnfield, Hingham and the Seaport). You can do your banking (duh), you can set up a work space, you can access banking tools and you can get coffee to fuel all of these efforts. Hello, pretty genius.

The panelists at this particular CapXTalk were obviously ones that resonated with locals, Michael J Egan from the Red Sox Foundation and Jessica Cox, Director of Harpoon Helps from Harpoon Brewery talked about local philanthropic efforts which were super interesting to me. I do fancy myself as someone who likes to try to do good in my community, donate money whenever possible to charitable causes, volunteer my time if I'm able so I found it really interesting to hear from a more corporate side what they think about when being charitable. I took some really interesting tidbits from the talk and wanted to share because I loved the messaging. Whether it was about the need to be a giving person or what it means to be authentic, even though this talk was presented by Capital One, it really did give me some things to think about.

It was really nice to see a big company like Capital One highlighting the good that they're doing not just nationally but on the local level. This latest #CapXTalk aligns with Capital One’s commitment to investing for good, with initiatives like Future Edge, a five-year, $150 commitment to equipping Americans with the skills they need to succeed in today’s digital economy, and C1 Coders, which helps to close the gender gap in STEM for middle school students. In Boston specifically, the brand has partnered with charitable organizations like Boston Cares, ABCD and Junior Achievement, and also launched the Give Back campaign, which empowers and funds Capital One associates to support local causes of their choice. For those of us who want to see companies wielding the power for good that we know they are capable of, this was refreshing reminder that there are companies doing it and doing it well, whether it's Capital One, Harpoon Brewery, the Red Sox and beyond...

You can manage your finances and also plan to live the type of life you want while also giving back to your community. It's really an adult thing to think about but hey, adulting is now my thing. If you're ever able to spend some time in a Capital One cafe, please do yourself a favor and take the time to take advantage of it. They really do give you the opportunity to use their resources to make your life better and more efficient. I'll take all the help that I can get, thank you very much. Totally interested? The folks at Capital One are like hey you guys, you can watch the stream yourselves! Check it out here and let me know what you think: http://bit.ly/CapXTalk

A DIY Mandala Meditation Table Sponsored By Wayfair

Sometimes I just love a good project, even if I don't have the time or even need to create anything. When Wayfair was like hey you guys, do you want to take the Maginnis End Table and do whatever you want to it? I was like heck, yes, send it on over and I am going to DECOPAUGE it! I've always loved decopauge, which simply put, is like gluing all of your favorite paper cutouts to something you love and making it all awesome by laquering that bad larry like it was going out of style. I taught myself the art of decopauge myself and it's really very easy. Some great tutorials are around the nets (like here and here) but what I really think should be your deco-P inspiration is an amazing piece of art or clippings that you adore. What inspired me was art created by my long time internet friend, Kristen Fagan. We "met" in our early days of blogging back when and have been following eachother's creative adventures ever since. She has been creating some amazing mandala and meditation art as of late and one of her pieces "Be Brave, Love Deeply, Shine Brightly" really spoke to me. I purchased the digital image and I've been sitting on it for over 6 months. *Light Bulb Turns On*- DECOPAUGE!

What You'll Need to Decopauge:

  • Glue- I use Modge Podge because if a glue was my soul mate, MP would be it.
  • Medium Sized Paint Brush
  • Paint Scraper or "Smoother"
  • Clear Varnish (optional, you can also use your Modge Podge)
  • Art- Be sure you have enough to cover your surface area. I printed mine at Staples on 8x11 multipurpose paper so the quality would be crisp!
  • Scissors

The process is really quite simple. You are covering the surface area with your papercut outs, gluing them, then sealing them for a smooth finish. It can take some getting used to and get ready to have "gluey" fingers for the duration but once you get into a groove, you really start creating something amazing. I did all the pieces of the side table unassembled to ensure that I wouldn't be missing any nooks or corners. Starting with bigger pieces to cover the wider surfaces of the table was easy and during a break, I cut different shapes from the art work (flowers, quotes, mandalas circles) to create the vision I wanted for the visible surfaces. When decopauging, it's important not just to glue but to smooth as you go, hence the need for the paint scraper. If you don't smooth your paper while the glue is drying, you may end up with air pockets and bubbles which can be hard to smooth out once dry. The beauty of using a print like this is that is was very forgiving in this area and lended to a more worry-free creative process. I said to my husband as I was decopauging, watching The West Wing on Netflix, that this table was going to be friggin' awesome!

Sure, the process can be tedious and time consuming when you're working on a piece of furniture but when the outcome is awesome, it's totally worth the committment! I am EXTREMELY pleased with the outcome. I think this is the perfect addition to a room where I often take some time to just "be quiet", though those moments are few and far between, it's important that I take them.  The table itself is super affordable so the project was  "low risk" but boy was it high reward. I absolutely friggin' love the outcome!

Treat Yourself to a Little Self Care

* This post is in collaboration with Cost Plus World Market for the Grand Opening of their store in Hyannis, MA

I'm lucky enough to have a working relationship with Cost Plus World Market and therein get to explore their stores on a regular basis! When I found out that their store was opening on the Cape, Hyannis to be exact, I jumped/leapt/just about fell over at the chance to help them spread the word. I joined a handful of local bloggers at an in-store event last  week, and even did a refresh on the DIY terrarium tutorial for Halloween! It was a fun night of tasty bites, Halloween decor, tablescapes, a photo booth and most importantly, SHOPPING! It wasn't my first time at the rodeo so I knew exactly what I was going to go for since I didn't need any new furniture or kitchenwares... self care products! It was fun shopping this spacious new store and the layout was just perfect for my quest! Being that this Mama of one is soon to be a Mama of two, there's no messing around when I'm making time for myself these days... since I know those days are numbered!

I knew what I wanted, since I'd been eye-balling some goods online before headed in store (a prepared shopper is a successful shopper!). A super soft  Damask Mirabella Chemise and the Coral Knit Shearling Slippers were on my must have list as well as some bath + body necessaties (Sistal and Cotton Soap PouchLavender Mint Bath and Body Oil +La Lavende Lavender Bar Soap). I also snagged some gifts for the holidays and some knick knacks that I just couldn't leave behind. It was a successful day at the Cost Plus World Market in Hyannis. I inspired Gabi to take on the terrarium, I ate delicious brie bites created by Annemarie and I saw a fantastic tablescape created by Lauren.  I shopped one of my favorite stores without a kid with me- It was one winner of an evening that I've loved sharing with you. If you're lucky enough to have a Cost Plus World Market in your area, you should most definitley take the time to explore and you'll be sure to find fun and affordable ways to spruce up your home!

Safe and Natural Baby Wipes? Sign Me Up!

*This post was sponsored by WaterWipes as part of an Influencer Activation for Influence Central and all opinions expressed in my post are my own.

Seriously, do you want to know what my new favorite "kid" product is? It's WaterWipes. This may be a sponsored post but I would have never tried them had I not been introduced to them. You know that I'm trying to be more conscious of what  my family is using, bath and body products, cleaning, hand soaps... you name it. I've been doing a pretty good job of it too but one thing I hadn't really been mindul of was the wet wipes I'd been using on the #PropahToddlah. WaterWipes is a chemical free baby (and kid and adult) wipe that contains only two ingredients, both of which you can recognize: 99.9% pure Irish water and 0.1% grapefruit seed extract.  This is most definitely a safe and more natural option for my family.

Grabbed my WaterWipes at Walgreens!

Not only is it safe, it works and is comparable in price. I don't have to worry about sensitive skin or irritating a rash that's already there. It's at least one thing I DON'T have to worry about. I can also keep a package at the kitchen table (I know, I'm so classy) because table manners is still a work in progress over here. I often give one (or two) to the toddler and am like, clean yourself up, Kid. I don't have to worry if he gets it in his mouth and it's nice to have some peace of mind for sure. I can't say the same about some of the other well known brands. I'm always looking for better ways to take care of my familly and this is just one of the new ones that I've discovered. With another baby on the way, I know what I'll be using moving forward. No, really, I love these WaterWipes... and so does this jelly faced kiddo!

Our WaterWipes at the breakfast table!

Want to snag some WaterWipes for yourself at your local Walgreens? The folks at I-C and Walgreens have teamed up to offer five lucky folks the opportunity to win a $100 Walgreens gift card through the WaterWipes Walgreens Giveaway! It runs from September 16th through October 7th so there's plenty of time to enter. I-C will randomly select five winners from all the entries and send out the prizes. While you're waiting to see who won, you can visit WaterWipes on Facebook and Twitter or grab a package to try for yourself at your local Walgreens.

      Orvis Spring Collection #SpringIntoOrvis

*I received complimentary product from Orvis for this review.

I'd never shopped with Orvis before starting this campaign and to be honest, I sort of thought that they were specifically for fishing gear; I'd only vaguely heard of them. When I had the opportunity to shop their Spring collection, I was actually surprised by how many wearable pieces that they carry. Not only do they have dresses and skirts but they carry active wear as well! I needed something that I could wear on a cool morning jog then not have to worry about a quick transition to running errands or playing with the guys. You see, I may be a bloggin' girl but I'm living my life over here. Planning a photo shoot with my Orvis goods was going to be a struggle with the #PropahToddlah so what I did was just grab my camera on a Saturday morning, ask the hubs to get involved and try to catch some moments with my son and furbaby. What's great about the Orvis Spring Collection is that it's perfect for the type of active lifestyle that I have, even if I'm not fly fishing or hiking everyday, ya know? We had our coffee, took some snaps and that's what I love about my new pullover; it was along for the ride! + Thumbholes!

Besides the sunshield pullover hoody (perfect for the chilly Spring run-jogs!). I grabbed the Striped Knit Tee Shirt Dress and a pair of grey Sperry Seacoast Canvas Sneakers, you know, for a classic nautical look for Summer. I'm actually really drawn to the dresses that they're carrying right now. Super simple but classic and versatile. I've got my eyes on a plaid popover number for this Summer! So now that I've piqued your interest and all that, there's something exciting that Orvis is working on!

Influence Central along with Orvis is hosting a contest for the new spring collection available at Orvis through which Prim and Propah readers can enter to win one of ten $100 gift codes to Orvis. Contest opens on March 28, 2016 and closes May 2, 2016. Readers can enter by choosing a social media sharing option from the social media tool below! Can't wait to shop? Orvis has kindly offered coupon code: ICSPRING for $25 off a purchase of $50 or more (good until September 30th, 2016)... so what are you waiting for? Enter the giveaway and head over to Orvis to check out their Spring Collection!

I Tried It: derma e Psorzema Line

*This post is sponsored by derma e and Brandbacker

Big on natural beauty over here, you know that much... I'm always looking to highlight brands that speak to me and what I need for my family. I have used derma e products before; I received their microdermabrasion goodness in last year's Whole Foods Hello Beauty bag. When Brandbacker launched a campaign for their Psorzema line, I'll admit I was interested... I know I'm not the only one who struggles with extremely dry skin (especially in the Winter months) but my bigger issue has always been with my scalp and finding a shampoo/conditioner that could relieve the CRAZY itching that happens when my hormones change (I can track it, it's been happening awhile now). If you're a reader then you know that over the past year or so, I've really tried to make sure that I'm bringing only the best/healthiest products into my home for our family. It's not always easy, especially if you're looking for a product that might require the medicinal benefits (of say, a dandruff shampoo)...

dermae e has just made me a very happy woman. To find a line of products, Plant Powered “Non-Prescriptions”, that works but is also natural, is a fine achievement indeed. The first day that I washed my hair, I could feel the shampoo in action, tingling it's way down to my scalp, doing its business. It cleanses, nourishes, soothes and de-flakes! The line is sulfate free- tar free- steroid free... all the things you may find in the name brand that had been previously used to calm my scalp down for a hot minute. Used along with the conditioner, my hair was clean and shiny and healthy looking and all the things that you want to see when trying something new. I'm truly excited that I was given the opportunity to try this line because I might not have otherwise picked it up, perhaps thinking that because its natural, it might not work... let me tell you, it does!

Even though the shampoo and conditioner were my main jam, I know that both the body wash and creme will be clutch at different stages of the game. When I was pregnant, my skin was the driest/itchiest it had ever been and there was no amount of lotion that could make it go away completely. Since a woman's body is ever changing, there is not doubt in my mind that whether it's another pregnancy or a hormonal change, I will likely need to sooth some majorly dry skin.

I have a friend who does calligraphy for work, you know, using her hands... she doesn't have time for the dry, cracked hands that come from eczema and since I know/love her, I'm definitely going to send the Psorzema creme her way. She can keep it at her desk for when she's got to work and there won't be anything standing in her way.

In my humble opinion, if you suffer from rough skin conditions like Psoriasis and Eczema, but you don't want to put all sorts of chemicals on your body, I would most definitely recommend the derma e line; at least try it. You know it's 100% vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, mineral oil-free, lanolin-free, gluten free, GMO-free. That's quite a stack of "free"s to put your mind at ease.

derma e® can be found in over 16,500 retail outlets across the U.S. such as Whole Foods Markets, ULTA Beauty, CVS and more!

      Groupon Restaurants

It should come as no surprise to you that my family loves a good meal. You see me baking and drinking and all of the in between. As our family has grown by one, the cost of feeding them has increased. "Well, how much can a 20 month old even eat?" you ask. Ummm, A LOT. First of all, they're picky. When they're picky, you have to find what they like and keep that in the house and on your person (ie in your purse because they get HANGRY). The same goes for restaurants when you're feeling daring enough to take a toddler out to eat... so when you find those family friendly restaurants that offer the food that they'll eat and the atmosphere that welcomes them, you obviously keep your eyes peeled for that ol' Groupon connection because saving money is my jam (and should be yours too)!

Did you know that Groupon has pages for restaurants where you can find basic information, reviews, recommendations, pictures, etc. and feature any deals that they place is offering? Well, consider yourself informed. Let's say that I plan to head into Boston and want to visit one of my tried and true staples, I check out their page, like Tantric India Bistro or Jacob Wirth, and see if I can snag a deal before heading in. If not, I mean, there is always the opportunity to try a new place too. Other Groupon users will leave their ratings on the restaurant pages so you can see what others are saying and let you know what the situation is. Is the restaurant kid friendly? I'd want to know that before making a decision. It takes a lot of the guess work out of the dining experience if you know what to expect.

I've said it before but I love that Groupon has really kept reinventing itself. Sure, it's still the traditional deal site, which is great, but between Groupon Coupons and Pages, it's also becoming a real wealth of information for it's users. If you haven't explored what Groupon has to offer, I urge you to do so!

*This post was sponsored by Groupon but all opinions are 100% mine. Just in case you were wondering, I paid for our Ixtapa meal with a Groupon I purchased all on my own!

      Thoughts on Blogging for "Pageviews"

I like when my blog makes money. It would be stupid of me if I didn't. I'm not rolling in the sweet moola so a little extra cash flow is always welcomed... It's a pretty sweet reward for something that is mostly considered a labor of love (my blog that is). Sometimes I get free stuff, too; this is also a pretty awesome thing... but to say that I am pouring myself into this blog for total page views and the "analytics" in the hopes of money+stuff, would be saying that this creation of mine, is, well, no longer my online corner of the world where I can write whatever it is that I want to but is rather another job, one that happens to be online. While I respect bloggers who can hustle and bustle, (get it Sandy ala Mode!) snagging opportunities that pay cash money while still looking authentic, to me, that is just too much dang work.

I recently needed reminding that this blog isn't about the things that I get for blogging but is about the things that are important to me. Let me give you an example of a recent, rude awakening. I'm a member of a large, female blogging network, one that I have been with for many years. When I first started off with them, I landed a campaign that was fun, I loved working on and was paid money for it. I thought it was the beginning of a beautiful relationship. That was three years ago and I haven't received a campaign since. So many awesome campaigns have come and go but I only ever apply to things that I think would fit with "me" or resonate with who I believe my readers are... but I never seemed to snag any of the opps that I applied for. One day, feeling frustrated, I emailed back and forth with one of the community leaders and she explained to me, in a very nice way, that it's all about the numbers, baby... so it doesn't matter that I would put my heart + soul into a campaign; it doesn't matter how good a pitch I gave them or how much time I spent crafting it or frankly how good my content is... they are judging me by my analytics. I won't lie. This realization STUNG. Ouch, feelings hurt, hopes and dreams dashed (cue drama queen antics). The community leader gave me some tips and tricks on what I could do to improve traffic and for a week or two, I was really trying to up my game, until one day I was accepted into a small content seeding campaign and I thought I had made a visible improvement to them. I signed the paperwork and was feeling hopeful. Mere minutes after I signed the agreement, the campaign manager came back to say that she accidentally emailed the agreement out to those NOT accepted. Sick burn, Clever Girls Collective, sick burn. Feeling rejected, dejected, neglected and all the other *ecteds, I decided to refocus my energy on something other than being a competitive blogger.

Blogging for the numbers... I am so torn on how I feel on this topic. I know that there are bloggers who have a lot of amazing things to say, and can effortlessly create content that brings the readers in (page views) but there are many more bloggers who are out there hustling for the unique visitors (a lot of which are clogging up my Facebook groups currently) to keep their numbers up so that they can keep sponsored opportunities coming, but at what point do your view points start becoming muddied by sponsored posts and the free things you are gifted and then recommend? I write this post with no one person in mind, but rather about the struggles I feel deciding whether I want to be a "Successful Blogger" or a "Blogger who has Successes", successes being measured in money+stuff+ event invites. I will never be the blog that millions of people read so let's just go from there, Amanda.

I'm not saying that I will not do sponsored posts (I am not wholly stupid, people) because there are brands who know how to help you create content that is original+organic, and I love going to free classes + learning things, and some blogging events are super fun + goodie bags but I'm also not going to let Prim and Propah slide down the slippery slope of workin' hard for the money, so hard for it honey, so hard for it honey that she doesn't do it right (that was a piss poor play on a famous 80's song by the by)... I work hard for my money 50 hours a week in a day job that I don't love and may or may not promote me never. I love P+P and I want to keep it that way so I guess I have to find that sweet spot, the balance of writing for me and taking the awesome opportunities that may come my way because I have a blog that I truly love and want to cultivate.

What are your thoughts on blogging for pageviews?
