My Fave Collections from NYFW SS 2014

I kind of missed what happened at New York Fashion Week... I kind of only realized it had happened just a few moments ago haha but once I started going back into the archives of what had transpired over the week of shows, I remembered why I am interested in fashion in the first place. It's like sitting down and reading an In Style from front to back, looking at every article and snippet. Fashion Week, I feel, is best reviewed on a Sunday morning, over coffee, at a leisurely pace. Some of my favorite designers were obvi my favorite collecgtions of the week (Alice+Olivia, Rachel Roy and Nanette Lepore) and then I was surprised by some (Anna Sui, Christian Siriano and Tracy Reese). I have recapped some of my favorite looks if it is something that interests you:

Outfit Post: Rainy Day Style

This past Friday my cousin celebrated her 30th birthday! YAY 30's! We were getting all set to go to a nice dinner and then it started to rain. It was no surprise, really. It had been raining all week and the weekend was looking to be the same way... but I have never let a little rain stop me from trying to bring it with ma clothes. Plus, I have been wanting to take my new Nanette Lepore platforms for a spin ;-). Rainy day style, coming right up!

Nanette Lepore and Popsugar Event, Boston

It's no secret that I adore Lepore... Nanette Lepore. When I got the email from Popsugar that asked me to RSVP for an event to shop at the Nanette Lepore's Boston boutique, while Nanette Lepore was on site, well let's just say, I wasted no time. It was like the stars aligned for me on this night of nights. I didn't hit any traffic despite there being a Sox game, I found on street parking on Newbury Street and I was right on time. Perfect!

Nanette Lepore's L'Amour for JC Penney

Oh Em Gee, you guys know how much I gush about Nanette Lepore on the weekly so it's no surprise that I have been shouting from the rooftops about her L'Amour collection for JC Penney, more specifically the [Delete] Digital Drama tee, whose proceeds go towards stomping out cyber bullying. In addition to this very special tee, there are also some slamming options designed for juniors but some of which are totally wearable for even the very style saavy 30 year old, ahem *clears throat*. There are lots of cute things in the signature Nanette Lepore florescents, very reminiscent of her Spring 2012 line. Like I told you previously, I picked up a Delete Digital Drama tee in blue but while I was shopping the JC Penney site, I had to take a look at the other L'Amour items to see if there was anything that belonged at home with me.

Nanette Lepore/Seventeen Magazine Team Up to End Online Bullying

It's been a very long time since I have picked up an issue of Seventeen magazine or even pulled up the site. Sure, I like to see what the kids are doing, from time to time, but it's not usually via these means and I am 30 years old here people! So imagine my surprise when I just found myself spending a copious amount of time on Seventeen's site today. As an avid Nanette Lepore and JC Penney fan, I was immediately intrigued by one of Nanette's tweets asking for support in an effort to end teen cyberbullying, via the Delete Digital Drama Campaign, which you can guess was something Seventeen has put together. I personally feel that this is a really important matter because 1. Being a teenager has never been and never will be easy 2. Teens, as well as adults, can use the internet as a means of bullying, whether it's blatant, aggressive or passive aggressive... it's never cool. This isn't just an issue that affects teens, though this effort is geared towards them... and sending hurtful messages is NOT OK.

In addition to deleting any insulting comments or sending supportive messages to friends who have been bullied, pick up this awesome, ombré tee designed by L'Amour by Nanette Lepore! It's only $10 at JCPenney, and 100% of the proceeds will benefit STOMP Out Bullying, a national anti-bullying organization.

I ordered mine in blue. Will you grab one to support this awesome effort?

Emma Roberts Knows Her Accessories

Oh to be Emma Roberts and look so glam wearing just a black t-shirt and oh, to be 21 again... sigh. Just because Emma is nearly 10 years younger than me, doesn't mean I can't crush on this girl's serious style. If you were to ask me what my favorite Emma Roberts movie is? Ummm, the only one that comes to mind is Aquamarine, wait, was she even in that? Point is, I don't even really know what sort of actress she is (showing my age) or will become but I do know that I admire her effortless cool and just all around cuteness. Plus, did I mention the accessories?

"Check" Out Nanette Lepore's Spring 2013 Line

Dude, I think if Nanette Lepore knew how much I love her clothes and how I project that love onto her person, she would probably be pretty weirded out. Well, actually, the Nanette I imagine her to be wouldn't be weirded out at all so I shall move on. But seriously, I really love her clothes.

It wouldn't be a fashion week if I didn't check out what kind of fashion goodness Nanette is serving up. What did she bring to the table for Spring 2013? A hefty serving of awesome checked separates and toile, oh the toile!

What's more cool than her always spot on color choices? Nanette placed Obama-Biden pins on every seat in the house. "That's all we've been talking about backstage, so I had to do something," she said. "Women need to be strong, intelligent, and remember that in addition to clothes, these things are important too." Ugh, Nanette, why do you have to be so cool?

Check out my fave looks from Nanette's Spring collection after the jump. You will not be disappointed!

5 Ways to Enjoy Fashion Week if You Aren't There

Note Dated Sept 2012: Today marks the start of New York Fashion Week. As you probably remember me saying (two days ago) that I won't be heading to NYC for Fashion week this Fall for a multitude of reasons. Part of me wants to sulk by myself, ignoring my Twitter feed full of #NYFW hashtags and bloggers living it up but most of me looooooves fashion and all that is new and shiny... so a girl has to be resourceful, and enjoy Fashion Week her own way.

Bridal Shower Dresses, the Finalists

So it's about today that I am 4 months out from my wedding, I know crazy, right? So the next few months are going to be pretty fast paced and full of projects and things to do. One of the more exciting things on a bride's to do list is of course, her bridal shower. I want to look fierce that day so even though I have about a month to go before the day of my shower, I want to make sure that I have got my look planned to a t. My friend Steph tipped me off to having your make up trial the day of your shower, so, well, you have your make up professionally done for the occasion. I made that appointment. Now what am I going to wear? I have narrowed the dress down to three and I am hoping that you guys can give me your honest opinion, plus, I am trying this whole "put a poll in your blog post" thing.

So which dress do you like the best for a Fall bridal shower?

Fashion Week is Upon Us... and I Can't Be There

This time last year I was preparing for battle with Target Online for a Missoni sweater (which I subsequently won) and also gearing up for a trip to NYC for my very first fashion week. It was at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week that I found a stronger love for Nanette Lepore and a new found love for Improvd and Lincoln Center. I chased after Rachel Zoe. I hollered after Stanley Tucci. I attended a Glam Media dinner where I met my blog bff, Ty from Gorgeous in Grey. I left NYC last September with a a fervor for blogging and networking that I had not felt before.I was convinced that I would be at every fashion week until the end of time... and then I got engaged.

Fashion week is so super fun but barely anyone is getting a free ride. Unless you live in the Metro NYC area, you are going to have to pay your way to be in and around Lincoln Center during Mercedes Benz Fashion week. I was lucky enough to take the train but I know of bloggers who have to fly. Unless your blog or publication is making so much money that it can pay for your hotel in Manhattan, you are likely staying in Brooklyn or Queens, in order to afford the multiple nights' stay for your exciting fashion week. You are likely paying for this excursion with your own money, that you make at your day job, which you are taking vacation time from in order to be in the Metro NY area for MBFW. I know that until I can afford to quit my day job to blog, I will be paying my way to fashion week every time I go.

When one gets engaged, it also costs money. It is a happy time, a time of looking to the future for all the exciting things that you and your partner will do together, hopefully great things! It is also a time to plan a wedding! Be it big or small, that shiz is going to cost you money. Fashion week in February passed me by. We had just put the deposits on a whole bunch of stuff and I missed the early registration for MBFW so it was going to cost me more to register and I wouldn't have been guaranteed shows... but I promised myself I would make it in September... I lied to me.

I set a calendar update for the day registration opened for the SS13 shows. The day of, I filled out the registration all the way up until I went to pay for my pass. I looked at the calendar. Fashion week fell less than 2 weeks before my friend Nathalie's wedding, which I was taking time off for. I was getting ready to go to Chicago for her bachelorette. I had just given another chunk of money to our photographer, I had just paid for my Fall class... at that moment in time, I just couldn't pull the trigger to register for Fashion Week this year, which, on paper, looks a whole lot like a vacation. Let's face it, are the posts that I am going to write on fashion shows that I go to, going to break the mold of the ever growing fashion bloggersphere? Doubtful. Would I put my own spin on it? Of course, but at this stage in my 2012 game, I had to weigh the priorities.

I get married at the beginning of January and will be taking a huge chunk of time off of work, so while I would like to say that I will try to make it in February, I know in my heart that is going to be a tough one. Maybe next September, Ill have it together, but for this year, Fashion Week will be spent online.

Nanette Lepore Resort Collection 2013

If you know me at all, you know I am a huge Nanette Lepore fan. Number one, she works out of NYC and is totally the biggest supporter of the Garment Center there, which I think is fantastic because I basically love the garment center as well. Number two, her designs make me swoon. I love playful colors, flattering cuts and the way that her clothes are incredibly wearable.... like you, me, my sister, my cousin, your sisters and your cousins could wear them and not look freakishly out of place. I love that every day kind of aesthetic that is not even close to being boring. Muah, Nanette Lepore xoxo your resort collection does not disappoint me!

Any of these dresses would be welcome to come live with me

With Cinco de Mayo coming up this Saturday (convenient) it's time to partay in style! My most recent list on Skinnyscoop is one geared towards taking your sassy Mexican inspired style to the level you are most comfortable with. Me personally? I am pining for some of the many Nanette Lepore dresses that seem to embrace the fiesta fashionista attitude!

Do you have any favorite senorita inspired looks that you rock?

Nanette Lepore Pictures Spring 2012 Show

Since I was there, and I had my camera and my will to capture these exciting moments (well exciting for me) I thought I would share some pictures I snapped from the Nanette Lepore Spring 2012 show. I was actually pretty pleased with some pictures but eh, not so much with others.

Front Row at the show, Stanley Tucci, Kelly Rutherford, Carol Kane and Ariana Huffington
Sam Bisbee performed an 11 minute set for the show... which rocked

Nanette looked radiant upon the completion of the show

Nanette Lepore Spring 2012

If we want to talk about one of the best experiences of all all time (well in my life up until this date) we can talk about my being granted access to the Nanette Lepore show at New York Fashion Week which happened to be directly following the Michael Kors show so I was able to people watch that one, which made this a doubly awesome experience.

Nanette's show was girly, flirtatious, colorful and a rocking' good time. I was personally inspired to inject more fluorescent pink and orange into my wardrobe for Spring... thankfully, I have a little time to save for perhaps an authentic Nanette piece, ooh la la.

Some of my favorite pieces were totally ready to wear, so much so that I was ready to wear them home... but unfortunately, I must wait. Wanna see what I loved? And I am sure Austin Scarlett loved as well? (yes, he was there and I tracked him down).
