I Tried It: Prim Botanicals

I have been on a bit of a hiatus in trying new beauty products. It's not that I haven't wanted to but the right brands just haven't come along. I am very picky when it comes to new items that I want to try because there are standards, people! I need to know that what I'm putting on my body (or my kids' bodies) is safe, natural and actually works. When my (new) friends at Prim Botanicals offered me the opportunity to bring some of their gorgeous products into my routine, I immediately said yes, because they embody what I appreciate in a brand.

"We are lovers of all things lovely, fresh, restorative and fun. We believe in seriously effective products that never take themselves too seriously. We believe in real beauty and the importance of feeling happy in one's skin."

The Prim Body Oil, $54: Ingredients, Corylus Avellana (Hazelnut Oil), Camellia Oleifera (Camellia Oil*), Prunus Dulcis (Sweet Almond Oil*), Carapa Guianensis (Andiroba Oil), Pentaclethra Macroloba (Pracaxi Oil**), Proprietary Blend of: Jasminum (Jasmine Oil), Rosa Centifolia (Rose Oil), Piper Nigrum (Black Pepper Essential Oil*), Citrus Bergamia (Bergaptene-free Bergamot Essential Oil), Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary Essential Oil*)

Seriously, you guys, the smell (essential oils like jasmine, wild rose, bergamot and black pepper), oh the sweet, fragrant body oil. I haven't ever had a body oil quite like this before. It's silky smooth when applied and absorbs rather quickly but I like to add to my bath (upon Prim's recommendation) or immediately post-shower to really optimize on the moisturizing. It works great as a spot treatment for my dry Winter skin but this oil almost feels too special to use every day. It's lush and luxurious, I absolutely love it, end of story.

Potion No 1, $26: Target Blemishes. Detoxify. Balance. Ingredients: Nigella Sativa (Black Cumin Seed Oil*), Calophyllum Inophyllum (Tamanu Oil), Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn Oil) *Organic

These little bottles are meant for targeted effects not every day use. Fortunately for this review but unfortunately for my life lol, I used this for a recent hormonal imbalance that was manifesting on my face. Since having the baby, my skin has been all out of wack but it's hard to find a natural option for a clear up that doesn't burn when you apply it. It applies orange but can easily be rubbed in to blend and has a light scent that fades shortly after application. I guess the only real question here is did it work? Yes, yes it did and so super gentle on the skin unlike other topical treatments I've used in the past.

Potion No 2, $26: Hydrate. Preserve Youth. Soothe. Ingredients: Carapa Guianensis (Andiroba Oil), Pentaclethra Macroloba (Pracaxi Oil**), Sclerocarya Birrea (Unrefined, Virgin Marula Oil**) **Wildcrafted

This particular potion offers a lot in a little bottle. After the afformentioned breakout or any breakout for that matter, my face goes a little dry. At my last facial, my esthetician also told me that I was "wicked" dry (my words not hers). Sometimes, I feel like my skin is moisturized when it actually isn't. I bet there are other people who feel the same way and so it's important that we keep an eye on things. There's a pleasant, light scent and I got a touch in my mouth, and it doesn't taste good so don't do that lol... but it's great, really. Not only did this help to restore some moisture back, I could see a noticeable difference in some areas of discoloration around my mouth. Yes, I know, so glamorous but seriously, it's like a little jar of magic. I guess there's a reason that it's been called a "mystical" beauty product.

I think the next on my list of things to try from Prim Botanicals would have to be the Hair Oil and the Face Oil but to be honest, I can't imagine that they aren't amazing. Prim Botanicals sent me these products to try and as you know, my opinions are mine, but seriously, I mean it, these are gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous products in every sense of the word.

Have you tried Prim Botanicals before? I'd love to hear about your experience!

I Tried It: Kelia Skincare + a Giveaway!

I've been so fortunate to be able to try all sorts of different skincare products this Summer and as we wind down our warmer days and Fall starts creeping in, I am happy to start tinkering with my skincare routine to ensure that I am taking care as the weather changes. I had the opportunity to work with Kelia Skincare, using The Repair Serum. It's different than the face serums that I've been using all Summer and I'm so excited to work this product into my Fall routine for a few different reasons.

1. The Repair Serum is a lightweight but super effective serum, jam packed with lots of fantastic ingredients. Licorice root, Daisy Flower extract, Wild Yam, Goji Berry, Bamboo stem extracts, Geranium Essential Oil, all encourage your skin to brighten and firm up. As a woman creeping up into her 30's, it's important to me to find products that help me reduce fine lines, combat discoloration and sun damage. I've been using it for a few weeks in the evening and do feel as though my skin has started to look a little more radiant. It also has a light scent that is appealing without being overwhelming- the geranium really does come through.

2. The Repair Serum, along with the other two products from Kelia Skincare (The Night Cream and The Moisturizer) are cruelty-free, never tested on animals, which is a given if it's going to be in my home. There are so many cruelty free options out there that there is no excuse to use something else.

3. Kigelia Africana, a super versatile fruit extract, is used in the line and has a ton of proven benefits like being anti-inflammatory, firming, anti-oxident, and clarifying. Doing a little research on this tree, it's actually pretty neat. Besides the benefits of the extract, the 3 foot long fruits (yep, 3 feet!) can be dried to make beer as well as feed some of my favorite animals (Hi Elephants and Giraffes!)e

4. The Repair Serum makes my face feel good. It goes on smooth, absorbs quickly, and is super luxurious. I have found that if a serum is going to break into my routine these days, it needs to feel luxurious. Applying my face routine is now a ritual and one that I take seriously.

If you don't want to take my word for it, try it yourself! My friends at Kelia are so stoked about what they're doing and want to share. One Prim and Propah reader will get the opportunity to try The Repair Serum (an $85 value) for themselves! Enter on the instagram snap below and Good Luck, my beauties!

I Tried It: COOLA Eco Suncare

“I received this product for free from Moms Meet (momsmeet.com) to use and post my honest opinions. Compensation for this post was provided.

Have you noticed that the Propah Family is very fair skinned? Well, we are. And sensitive skinned, did I mention that? When it comes to being outside, I have to make sure that my kids (and myself obvi) are covered in sunscreen and hats and everything in between because it's so super important to protect our skin. That said, I kind of have an aversion to the smells and feel of common sunscreens/blocks. Of course, I use them, but when other options come along, I'm here for it. COOLA was awesome enough to send us a great package of some of their best sun products and to say that I am pleased, would be an understatement. The natural line of products that also touts some amazing organic ingredients has me really excited about protecting our skin with something that I actually love. No more "tolerating", I'm loving.

The folks at COOLA aren't just creating your average sunscreen, they're curating a useful but crushworthy line of products for the whole family. Discerning mothers (and fathers) know what is quality when they see it. When I tried the Eco-Lux (SPF50) Guava Mango Sunscreen Spray, I was a touch skeptical at first because, man does it smell good and my brain had trained me to only trust sunscreens that made me go "meh". I was so very pleasantly surprised though. Over 70% of the ingredients are organic and all of them are super safe. This is now our go to sport spray when we hit the Cape last week, prepping for the Red Sox game and when I'm packing a bag for the park or walking trail because I can use it on all of us. Even when I've run out of the baby specific goods, this works in a pinch for Teddy too.

I also got to try the Mineral Sport SPF 50 Tinted Sunscreen Stick, Face SPF 30 Makeup Setting Spray and the Liplux SPF 15 in Peppermint Vanilla... and all of the products do not disappoint. I may have received these items for free to try but I am already scoping out some of their makeup because I love what I've seen so far. Their makeup setting spray itself is a great way to make sure that you're protecting your face from UV rays. Even if none of your makeup itself has an SPF, this is the best stuff to create a matte finish. My only qualm is that as a Mom of two young children, I wish there was an option to get this spray in a bottle that isn't glass... I've had a few scares in the past week and would be heartbroken if my spray broke. But really? It's fancy and I love that too.

I'm a new fan of COOLA and am super excited that I was introduced to them. They may not be the least expensive option to protect your skin from harmful UV rays but they are most certainly one of my favorites. Quality is key for me and I like to support brands that are looking to keep harmful ingredients out of their formulas while providing products that you can truly fall in love with.

Do you want to try COOLA yourself? You can use COOLA code: Light20 to receive 20% off your order until September 30th!

I Tried It: Malaya Organics + a Giveaway

This has been a Summer full of amazing beauty products, well, new to me beauty products. I have been really enjoying introducing myself and you guys to brands that I can honestly recommend. Malaya Organics is one of those brands. Malaya is handcrafted in small batches and those batches are filled with whole-plant extracts that make them restorative, nourishing and known to boost elasticity (which is my new favorite thing). As I get older, it's these types of products that really pique my interest. I want them to work, I want my skin to respond positively and I want to be using quality products in my regimine. Malaya Organics checks all those boxes. I had the opportunity to try some of their most popular oils and I'll cut to the chase: I truly adore them.

Malaya Organics Body Oil in Woods- It's organic and wildcrafted- This particular scent is great because I feel like it's something my husband could use and not feel like he smelled too feminine even though I'm not trying to place specific smells on specific genders if you get what I'm saying. It's great as a bath oil and I would definitely use in the shower, though the bottle is glass so obviously, you'd want to be careful. This has mostly been my after shower body oil that I apply while I'm damp and it's made me so silky smooth Summertime ready. Ingredients: Jojoba Oil*, Sweet Almond Oil*, Sunflower Oil*, Safflower Oil*, Argan Oil*, Avocado Oil*, Rosehips Oil*, Herbal extracts – [Arnica Flower*, Plantain Leaf*, Calendula Flower*, Chamomile Flower*, Yarrow Leaf and Flower*, Lavender Flower*, Elder Flower*], Proprietary blend of Essential Oils and Absolutes *^ including - Bergamot Oil*+, Bulgarian Rose Oil*, Sandalwood Oil*, Vetiver Oil*, Patchouli Oil*, Vitamin E Tocopherols (GMO Free).

Malaya Organics Rejuvinating Face Serum-  It's organic and wildcrafted- silky smooth, absorbs quickly and smells amazing but not overpowering. This face serum feels luxurious as far as quaility face oils are concerned, this is a top notch option. This stuff is the bomb and the bottle is super cute too! Ingredients: Jojoba Oil*, Sweet Almond Oil*, Camellia Oil*, Sunflower Oil*, Meadowfoam Oil*, Argan Oil*, Siberian Pine Nut Oil^, Rosehip Oil*, Borage Oil*, Avocado Oil*, Pumpkin Seed Oil*, Herbal extracts - [Elder Flower*, Marshmallow Root*, Burdock Root*, Plantain Leaf*, Rose Petals*, Calendula Flower*, Chamomile Flower*, Yarrow Leaf and Flower*, Lavender Flower*], Proprietary blend of Essential Oils and Absolutes*^ including - Gardenia Absolute^, Bulgarian Rose Oil*, Jasmine Absolute*^, Neroli Oil*, Seabuckthorn Oil*, Sandalwood Oil*, Rosewood Oil^, Mixed tocopherols (vitamin E – GMO Free).

This is going to be my chapped lip, Winter go to, I just know it! I Tried It: Bella Aura Skincare

I've been trying a lot of different skincare products this Summer. To me, that's a great thing. Since having the second baby,  my skin has been changing. I have no idea if these are permanent changes or if it's due to the hormones. I do know that I've been working on keeping my skin happy in the heat and humidity, while breast feeding, while also trying to change my diet. All of these have an affect on me and what will work with my skin. I had the opportunity to work with Canadian brand Bella Aura, using an extended line of their skincare products for the past month. Bella Aura operates under the core values- believing in honest beauty, purity of ingredients and proving how they are different in the green/ clean beauty space (which is rapidly expanding)

The folks at Bella Aura sent me a full regimine to follow with their five product line. They called it the 'go with the flow' microcirculation facial, which helps to contour, lift and create a very in shape face. Apparently, the microcirulation facial circulates more blood and oxygen to your skin, repairing damage and building necessary cells. So yeah, I was pretty stoked to supercharge my beauty routine.

What I received: The Antioxidant Booster which helps your skin detox from all the grossness you encounter in a day, Daily Repair Moisturizer which delivers hydration to the skin while supporting the skin's natural collagen,  Instant Under Eye Lifting Cream which helps the sensitive skin around the eye firm up, reducing the signs of aging, puffiness, dark circles etc and so on, the Night Cellular Renewal which not only hydrates but fights the signs of aging by improving firmness, elasticity and retaining moisture and the Gentle Purifying Cleanser, which is what it sounds like but is also the foundation for the go with the flow facial.

So I've mentioned before that I'm not getting any younger. When I'm looking at new beauty products, I want both results and great ingredients... and by results, I mean, please make me look younger or at least stop the signs of aging. I want to promote healthy skin, keep my skin tone even, firm it up and if a have a healthy glow, well, then all the better.

The Bella Aura products themselves are above the standard as far as the ingredients are concerned. Using neroli, argan, fig de barbary and nigella oils, the Bella Aura Kamilah blend is tested and sourced from nature while also taking into consideration how the products can be used with one another to create emulsions (combination of serums and creams). So I can check this off the requirements.

The results part, well, at first I was a little taken aback at how much I had to remember when applying my skin care routine. My brain is fried come the end of the day because two kids... but once I got into the routine, it was really easy to dip and dap as I needed to. The products all have a very light but lovely scent and apply very smoothly. There was not a single one that I applied and left me feeling greasy- so they definitely absorb quickly. After using the products for a couple of weeks now, I couldn't tell you which wrinkles it attacked or where I specifically felt my skin had improved but I look at my face and see a healthy one. My skin is glowing people and feels soft and oh so healthy. And smooth, did I mention smooth? I should really do the regimine then post a selfie because I look that good, even with no makeup. It's a 5 product line that works and will last me because each step is regimented and precise. Want to see what the regimine was all about? Check it out below.

Tips from Bella Aura "go with the flow" microcirculation facial
- 1-2 minutes daily in AM and PM - use upward lifting motion
By using this technique you maximize the absorption of the vitamins K1 & K2 (which promote blood vessel elasticity), vitamin P (which reduces capillary fragility and increases microcirculation), Omegas 3,6,9 (improves blood circulation), vitamin B3 aka Niacinamide (which increases fatty acid ceramide levels in the skin to help the skin retain hydration) contained in our products.

1) Cleanse skin with Gentle Purifying Cleanser for 30 sec to 1 min
2) Mix Daily Repair, 4 drops, with Antioxidant Booster, 3 drops, in palm of hand
3) Dot mixture onto the 5 points of face: forehand, cheeks, nose, and chin
4) Using index and middle finger, gently massage upward along your jawline. Focus on where you want to lift - i.e. jawline and below cheekbones
5) Focus also on lymphatic drainage: Massage upward along jawline towards ears, around and behind ears, and then down the sides of your neck and outward to your shoulders
6) For laugh lines: Pull outward with same fingers to smooth away lines
7) Forehead lines, if any: Zigzag motion with index and middle fingers. If no lines: massage upward and outward
8) Eye contour: light swipe 1 pump under each eye and gently tap with 2 fingers to stimulate circulation

I Tried It! Aimee Raupp + a Giveaway

Aimee Raupp is a wellness and health expert who has helped women be inspired to take their wellness into their own hands, improve their vitality, celebrate their beauty and even works with those looking to encourage their fertility. If you check out her Youtube videos, it's kind of hard not to like her and her positive energy. She's got the good vibes of someone who's helping people and is good at it. In addition to being an author, acupuncturist, and wellness coach, Aimee has created a line of skincare products that are organic and free of the type of chemicals known to disrupt hormones (gross) so of course when Aimee's team reached out, I was totally interested in getting a peek at what they're working on. They were kind enough to share some of their gorgeously created products to try and I'm thrilled to be reporting back to you all.

Organic Cocoa Butter Eye Cream: I just turned 35 and I'm the mother of two young children so as you can imagine, the wrinkles are coming and the delicate skin around my eyes is showing a little bit of age. I embrace aging for the most part but when there's a great product that nourishes while promoting collagen, all while keeping it organic and natural, well I'm here for it. Also, if you know me, a killer scent will get me every time... and this eye cream smells like a cocoa dream.

Organic Balancing Facial Oil: I am not sure this will be my every day facial oil and not because I don't love it but I think that I'll be saving this for when I'm blotchy and my skin is irritated (kind of like it is right now, because of my Summer sweat issues!). When I break out or have redness, I don't necessarily want to use the my everyday oil. What I love about Aimee's Balancing Facial oil is that it provides anti-inflammatory and anti-aging effects through its oils (sweet almond oil, argan oil and blue chamomile essential oils). It's not greasy at all, absorbs quite nicely and isn't an overwhelming scent.

Organic Coconut Sugar Facial Scrub: A sweet treat for exfoliating your face and feeling radiant. You know how after a cleanse and a good scrub your face has that shiny, effervescent glow? Yep, this is that kind of stuff.

Chill Aromatherapy Roller: I love a good "relax" roller and this one is no exception. It's not a super strong scent like some "chill-esque" or "sleep" rollerballs so you could keep this in your purse and apply without scaring people off who are sensitive to smells.

You can follow Aimee Raupp on Facebook, Instagram and YouTube!

And if that wasn't enough, hop on over to Instagram to win a great package of Aimee's products because they want to share the love!

I Tried It: Violets are Blue Skincare

You know when you hear about a brand or a product and think to yourself, man, I gotta try that... but then months, sometimes longer goes by and you still haven't? That's what happened with me and Violets are Blue Skincare. I had heard about their products through the wellness grapevine and had always been interested in trying to work them into my beauty routine. You see, Violets are Blue Skincare is a company that not only makes clean beauty products. they are also do-gooders and those are my favorite types of people. After a Breast Cancer diagnosis, Violets' founder Cynthia Besteman discovered not only a love of creating safe skincare products but also a love of supporting a cause. The team at Violets are Blue are creating quality products for us and also contributing to their community. They are currently working with Mount Sinai's Dubin Breast Cancer Center proving women undergoing treatment a care package on their first day. They also invite their customers to contribute as well... but I suppose I should talk about the products, right? I'll give you a hint as to what I though: *thumbs up*

I was able to try a handful of some of the Violets are Blue products and was super pleased with the quality, especially the facial serum and the lip balm. I mean, I've tried A TON of lip balms and I have to say, this is on my tippy top of favorites. Priced at $12 it's a little expensive but it's good stuff. It's smooth and soft, smelling of lavender (which is my fave!) and really, really works to moisturize. Their Signature Line facial serum is top notch as well. Also somewhat lavender-y with a hint of carrot seed, this oil absorbs quickly and doesn't leave a lasting, obnoxious scent. It's also very light on the skin which I appreciate, because it keeps my routine moving faster rather than waiting on it to be less greasy.

I've tried a lot of clay masks and the iteration from Violets', the Smoothing Clay Mask, is on par with some of the better masks that I've used. It is a powder, which some people do not care for, but I am not opposed to making a little paste for myself. Using powdered coconut, Rock Rose, and White Clay, it's a pretty gentle blend that really left my skin glowing. Plus, I feel like this jar will last me for quite some time based on how much I've used so far. I would most definitely recommend to those looking for a nice clay mask option to keep in their Selfcare Sunday rotation.

I'd love to get my hands on the deodorant to try as well as their facial scrub, so those may be on my "to try next" list and now that I've gotten the chance to experience Violets are Blue Skincare, I may not wait so long before snagging another product.

*The folks at Violets are Blue sent me products to try but all opinions are 100% my own.

I Tried It: KPS Essentials

Something that I've really loved about getting my beauty routine "clean" combined with being a blogger is that I've been lucky enough to get to know the people behind the brand in some cases. There are so many different lines created by creative entrepreneurs that you could try a new one every day so when I'm able to connect with the people, the human beings making the products, then I think it makes it a more special experience. You're probably tired of me gushing about the W.E.L.L. Summit but tough, it's a part of me now. In the Rebecca Casciano Sacred Beauty session, we were introduced to the pair behind KPS Essentials.

Natalie reached out to me after I commented on an Instagram post of another eco beauty blogger. I had mentioned that I wanted to try their Renu C+ Serum because time is passing people and I would like to keep this face looking as fresh as possible for as long as possible without damaging it with junk. Natalie and I set up a time and we spoke on the phone, person to person, about my skin, what I thought I needed and what she thinks I actually needed. She wrote me up a plan based on my concerns, basically my wrinkled forehead. I swear that's where I am aging the most. But of course, Natalie took my skincare routine into consideration and gave me some thoughtful tips on taking care of my face.

I was gifted the Antioxidant Eye Repair Serum, Probiotic Toner, Renu C+ Serum, Aromatherapy Cleansing Oil and the Renu Face Cream and to say that I was excited would be an understatement. That package arrived a month ago and I've followed the routine (mostly) morning and night... and guess what? I've noticed a real change! Want to hear something silly? I measured by one crease on my forehead, the biggest culprit... and she's backing down folks. She's retreating. You know what the secret was- a combination of the eye repair serum, Renu C+ serum and the Renu face cream. I'd create a little "cocktail" of those products and have it act as my facial treatment after cleansing and toning, so super simple.

The products from KPS Essentials are meant to be used continuously to improve your skin and provide lasting results without clogging up the works with all the nasties you can find in your typical targeted skincare products. KPS uses farm grade organic ingredients that you can feel good about using on your face. They target your skin with distinct functions: hydration, volume, collagen growth, hyper pigmentation, and acne. What I think I love the most about the KPS Essentials line is that they ARE targeted products. They feel luxe. They work. Want to hear a sweet little bonus on the aromatherapy cleanser as well? I use it on the kiddos tootsies after bath and before bedtime, so we all relax a little bit after a long day together!

You can find KPS Essentials on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and their blog.

I Tried It: Bottega Organica + a Giveaway!

You know I have so much love for the W.E.L.L. Summit and something that was a treat upon little treats was a sample in the luxe gift bag, a little sample of the Bottega Organica face balance. The stuff is what dreams are made of. I had to know more about this brand so I totally reached out to them. The great thing about green/clean/eco beauty is that it is becoming easier and easier to find but now that there are more brands offering these safe, non-toxic options, you've got to be interested to see what they are about! I'm super happy that I discovered Bottega Organica for a multitude of reasons. First of all, they're creating their products on a farm in upstate NY, not far over the Massachusetts border, like, hello dreamy. If I didn't have a newborn, I'd take a day, make an appointment and see what they're doing all over there. And then there are the fantastic products. Seriously.

They were nice enough to send me some products to try out. In my rotation now are the Bottega Organica Nourish Face Oil, Calm Face Mist and the Body Contour Formula. Each fits into my current beauty lifestyle seamlessly. Post pregnancy motherhood has been different this time around and so I've sort of been searching for new items that fit my new needs. I have to say that I love each and every one of these products for different reasons.

The Calm Face mist is definitely something I use daily and would recommend for general use. It's a cucumber mist that cools and soothes, something I have needed for my face's tendency to dry out during the day and the most recent occurrence, post partum blemishes and blotchiness. I haven't been wearing a ton of makeup lately so this spray has been on hand for use whenever I feel like I need it.

The Nourish Face Oil is on par with the quality face oils/serums that I've tried and use regularly. Rosemary, lemon balm, grape leaves and French lilac deliver skin-purifying and soothing antioxidants to the skin. The smell is delightful. If you know me, you know that scent, or lack thereof depending on the product, is a big deal to me. I don't like something on my face that I will smell all day and inevitably annoy me. The nourish face oil has a light lavender smell with a hint of herbiness which pleases this Mama. Moreover the oil doesn't sit greasy on my face. It soaks in nicely, allowing me to move on with my face routine, moisturizer then makeup (if I'm feeling adventurous) with no problems with absorption.

I specifically requested the Body Contour Formula because the thing that I've most been searching for in the eco-natural-green beauty realm is a product that I can use to combat my cellulite prone areas. This product touts "Pure organic chili peppers are rich in capsaicin molecules that enhance micro-circulation in cellulite-prone areas while peppermint stimulates and energizes the skin. This synergic action favors deep tissue penetration and rejuvenation from the activity of prawn sage and natural vitamins from carrot and apricot." I was intrigued. The smell is killer, like I love it, so good. I've been using it after my morning showers and it works as a basic body oil. The only difference to what I might daily use is that it is a darker orange color and does include chili peppers which could sting if you get it in your eyes so I would caution that. That being said, I really do feel like this is going to be one of my faves, if not my favorite body oil. It's really a high quality product and I'm already dreading running out of it!

Bottega Organica wants to share what they're creating with Prim and Propah readers! Are you excited? Well, you should be! One reader will be able to win the following Bottega Organica products: one bottle of Nourish Face Oil, a bottle of Comfort Hand Balm and also a sample strip of some of their most popular products (Cleanse face oil, Morning face oil, Redefine eye contour serum, Cherish face balm, Comfort hand balm.) all a value of over $130! I Tried It: derma e Psorzema Line

*This post is sponsored by derma e and Brandbacker

Big on natural beauty over here, you know that much... I'm always looking to highlight brands that speak to me and what I need for my family. I have used derma e products before; I received their microdermabrasion goodness in last year's Whole Foods Hello Beauty bag. When Brandbacker launched a campaign for their Psorzema line, I'll admit I was interested... I know I'm not the only one who struggles with extremely dry skin (especially in the Winter months) but my bigger issue has always been with my scalp and finding a shampoo/conditioner that could relieve the CRAZY itching that happens when my hormones change (I can track it, it's been happening awhile now). If you're a reader then you know that over the past year or so, I've really tried to make sure that I'm bringing only the best/healthiest products into my home for our family. It's not always easy, especially if you're looking for a product that might require the medicinal benefits (of say, a dandruff shampoo)...

dermae e has just made me a very happy woman. To find a line of products, Plant Powered “Non-Prescriptions”, that works but is also natural, is a fine achievement indeed. The first day that I washed my hair, I could feel the shampoo in action, tingling it's way down to my scalp, doing its business. It cleanses, nourishes, soothes and de-flakes! The line is sulfate free- tar free- steroid free... all the things you may find in the name brand that had been previously used to calm my scalp down for a hot minute. Used along with the conditioner, my hair was clean and shiny and healthy looking and all the things that you want to see when trying something new. I'm truly excited that I was given the opportunity to try this line because I might not have otherwise picked it up, perhaps thinking that because its natural, it might not work... let me tell you, it does!

Even though the shampoo and conditioner were my main jam, I know that both the body wash and creme will be clutch at different stages of the game. When I was pregnant, my skin was the driest/itchiest it had ever been and there was no amount of lotion that could make it go away completely. Since a woman's body is ever changing, there is not doubt in my mind that whether it's another pregnancy or a hormonal change, I will likely need to sooth some majorly dry skin.

I have a friend who does calligraphy for work, you know, using her hands... she doesn't have time for the dry, cracked hands that come from eczema and since I know/love her, I'm definitely going to send the Psorzema creme her way. She can keep it at her desk for when she's got to work and there won't be anything standing in her way.

In my humble opinion, if you suffer from rough skin conditions like Psoriasis and Eczema, but you don't want to put all sorts of chemicals on your body, I would most definitely recommend the derma e line; at least try it. You know it's 100% vegan, cruelty-free, paraben-free, sulfate-free, mineral oil-free, lanolin-free, gluten free, GMO-free. That's quite a stack of "free"s to put your mind at ease.

derma e® can be found in over 16,500 retail outlets across the U.S. such as Whole Foods Markets, ULTA Beauty, CVS and more!

I Tried It: Arya Essentials Face Oil

I received a sample of Arya Essentials Face Oil in my WELL Summit gift bag. There was no agreement that I would write a review or any type of stipulation given when I received the sample... it was simply put, SWAG! The fact that I reached out to the brand to write this review should reflect how much I friggin' love the Arya Essentials Face oil. It is truly one of my new favorite beauty products in my ever evolving routine; tweaking and trying new things to find my perfect beauty balance. It is most definitely on the higher end of the types of oils that I would use but that's why I am here to tell you that this is like my "Sexy, Getting Ready" face oil, like when I want to feel luxurious.

Based on the brand research that I have done, Arya Essentials is big on keeping true to Ayurveda, which is a type of alternative and complimentary medicine originating in India. Considered the oldest holistic healing system, Ayurveda is based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body and spirit. I am a firm believer in promoting good health, so a brand that full embraces that must have the right idea but has to have the product to back it up.

I have only had the opportunity to try their face oil but from the second I got a whiff, I knew I was in love. The oil does have natural fragrances so if that is something that deters you normally, you may not like the Arya face oil but I simply love it and the smell. I am not getting any younger so the fact that this oil includes Amla (or Indian Gooseberry) and Brahmi (or Herb of Grace) to boost collagen and make my wrinkles look less like a part of my face, really appeals to me. The oil applies very thinly and absorbs quickly, so you're not waiting around to stack on your other products if that is a part of your routine. I've found in my use, the oil does well on it's own, even in these Winter months but does allow for a moisturizer and even makeup to be applied after, with nice results.  A full size bottle retails for $95 which is a little more than I think I would normally spend but like I said, this is my face oil that makes me feel luminous and not going to be for my every day. Let's say that the hubby gifts it to me, well, then I might be using it more often but part of me likes having that something special to rotate in an out of the routine when I want to treat myself.

I Tried It: BeautyCounter

A couple of months back, I saw Beautycounter come across one of my social feeds and very shortly thereafter, a girl I went to High School with, knowing that I'm really trying to embrace green and clean beauty, contacted me about the Beautycounter brand. She'd recently became a consultant and seemed really passionate about the brand so I was like, sure, let's talk Beautycounter! She offered me the opportunity to try some of their best selling products so I could see the quality and safe ingredients that they use when making their essentials. How does Beautycounter compare to other brands that I'm currently using? Well, honestly, they're right up there and they're not totally overprices so I think what they've got going, is an excellent way for the green beauty movement to reach more people. Being educated is part of their mission and educating others is why I'm talking green beauty so, I appreciate what they're doing.

I've The Rose Water Uplifting Spray: You may recall that this spray made it into my Winter Skin Must Haves and it's for good reason. I keep this on hand now because my skin is dry and sometimes needs a pickmeup. I KNOW this is going to be clutch come Summer when it's hot and sticky; this will be a cool burst of freshness for this sweaty glistening lady.... and the good news? When I'm spritzing and the toddler comes along, I don't have to worry about giving him a little spray.  Check out BC's ingredient selection process here.

Another item that I tried, and loved, was the Uplifting Day Cream: it does everything you want in a moisturizer. It smooths and softens. It didn't leave my skin feeling greasy and it wore beautifully under makeup and over my face oil. I don't know that I would completely replace my moisturizer for the UDC but it's definitely a quality product, with a pleasant light scent, that would be a great addition to anyone's beauty regimen.

Something that I can foresee being a "purchase" for me, would be the Everyday Shampoo and Conditioners. I am a HUGE sucker for anything citrus but more importantly, this clarifying shampoo made my hair feel instantly cleaner after some definite build up had occurred because of my "purple" shampoo (no, I'm not a shampoo purist, yikes!). I don't wash my hair every day but this pair will work it's way into my rotation because I've been looking for a perfect clarifying shampoo and this checks a lot of boxes for me in general.

There are many more products that Beautycounter has to offer, including a new baby line that intrigues me so I might just set up a party for family and friends. No matter how much I talk to my family about natural beauty products, I get the feeling that it might not be completely sticking. I think it might be time to bring in some outside help... tell me, have you tried any of the Beautycounter products?

I Tried It: The Perfect Portion Cookbook

So you may have noticed that I've been trying to cook and bake more around the ol' homestead. Maybe it's because I've outgrown my reputation for burning instant potatoes back in high school or maybe it's because food is a lot healthier when you make it at home instead of eating out all the time, which I admit, is almost always the easiest option. So when I was approached about doing a review of a new cookbook, The Perfect Portion Cookbook,  I didn't immediately say no. I took a peek at what we'd be cooking from and I have to say that I was interested, not because of the portion control, well, yes, I guess because of the portion control!

Here's the sitch: Featuring actor/director Anson Williams from "Happy Days," The Perfect Portion cookbook launches Feb. 7th on QVC. The Perfect Portion Cookbook is written by New York Times best-selling cookbook author, Bob Warden and food and nutrition expert, Mona Dolgov of Natick, Mass. and was just featured on the TODAY show and on The Doctors as a new way to think about portion control and nutrition. The remarkable recipes are all divisible by 100 so readers can eat what they love and enjoy 100, 200 or 300 or 400 calorie portions. Delicious recipes like French toast, chili, chicken pot pie, and lasagna swap out better-for-you ingredients that don’t sacrifice flavor and taste better than the originals.

When I first received the cookbook, I was a little surprised at just how many recipes were included. Each page had a tried and true, easy to make recipe... most importantly, they all look like they tasted yummy! Portion control tips and tricks for each recipe are noted on the pages, so it's super easy to be like OK, I eat this much and it's 100 calories. It's actually a  REALLY easy cookbook to follow. I mean it. Something I have always wanted to do was to wrap something in parchment paper and bake it in the oven. Why have I never done it? I guess I thought it would be too hard/time consuming... but on a lunch hour this week, I grabbed some Tilapia and I made myself a yummy (and healthy) lunch, baked fish packets with dill!

I literally had all the ingredients in my house: tilapia fillets, lemon juice, butter, minced garlic, salt, pepper and dill. See? Totally doable whether you are spontaneous or if you're putting it in your meal planner! My lunch was quick, easy, healthy and tasty... what more could you ask for?

There are so many other recipes that I am dying to try (eggplant parm casserole, turkey tetrazzini, ratatouille & sausage bake, sweet potato hash and so much more!) that I have been adding them to my meal planner and ensuring that everything is in stock. I really feel like this cookbook has challenged me to make things that have always seemed difficult but really aren't. I know they set out to teach me portion control but to me, this cookbook is more than that. I really do love it, so much that I left a review on Amazon for good measure. I'd like to see this cookbook succeed, that's for sure!

Have I piqued your interest? Grab your copy on Amazon today!

*I received a copy of The Perfect Portion Cookbook for review. All opinions are 100% my own and as always, thanks for supporting the brands that help Prim and Propah every day!

I Tried It: Skincando

I think it was when I first visited Follain in Boston's South End that I received a sample of the Skincando Combat-Ready Balm. Being a blogger, I'll be honest. I receive samples for a lot of different things so for a product to stand out, it does mean something. The Combat-Ready Balm really did make an impact in our home over the last Winter where 6 feet of snow "blanketed" our sweet New England region and now that it's Winter again, I have found myself digging for that sweet relief for my cracked + dry hands. While our Winter has been MUCH milder this year, the air is certainly different and our skin reacts to it, no doubt. You know, if you read up on the Combat-Ready Balm it was originally used by soldiers in harsh regions to help relieve severe dryness, eczema, chafing, scars, bug bites, burns and so much more. It's the kind of salve that you want to have on hand, and literally, on your hands, because it's the real deal.

I really hadn't done much research on what else Skincando offered because I am starting to get settled into the green beauty products in my regimen but I just recently received some of the Skincando Luxe line and gave it the good old college try. I replaced my normal moisturizer with the miracle cream and have to say that with the colder weather, and the subsequent drier skin, it paired nicely with my face oil and absorbed quickly. A little goes a long way so even a light layer kept my skin moisturized all day without feeling greasy. On those days where it was just oil and miracle cream, my face felt good. On the days when I wore this combo under my makeup, it held up nicely and didn't complicate my normal routine of getting dolled up aka evening out my skin tone with something lightly tinted.

The eye balm, well, I don't currently use an eye balm but I am pushing 34, oh wow, yeah so maybe I should be looking into this in more detail? The Skincando luxe eye balm is very similar to the miracle cream in consistency and how it wears on the skin. The balm has green tea and lemon grass essential oils but is not heavily scented, which is a major pro in my book. I'm going to continue using the eye balm and will start looking at those fine lines and wrinkles a little closer to see if there are any results. Both the miracle cream and eye balm are handmade to order, so it's a very personal process that I admire. My friends and I are always talking about authenticity and where you spend your money is like casting a vote, and you want your vote to count.

The products are legitimate and in the very least, the combat balm will earn it's spot in your battalion but bonus for people who like brands that give back and want to make the world around them better, Skincando's founder, Sara Damelio created Operation Sand Flea, a means of donating the combat ready balm to troops overseas, which can soothe flea bites, sunburn and dry skin all at once. It's how the combat balm came to be and it's how Sara and her team are giving back. It's really special and I love when a line has a story like this. I can get behind a brand where I respect the people and love the products. Skincando has found a place in my beauty cabinet and that is not a lie. I can't wait to snag a jar of the Combat Balm especially for kids, since, well, I have one!

You can find Skincando on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Pinterest. If you're local, pick up the combat balm at Follain or visit the Skincando site for your goodies.
*Skincando provided samples but all opinions are 100% my own + I will spend my own money on future Skincando purchases.
