DIY: Driftwood Jewelry Mobile + a Giveaway

I have been trying my best for the past few years to keep my necklaces from tangling up with one another. It's kinda hard unless you have the right stuff, baby. I recently saw some interesting driftwood pieces on etsy and decided that rather than spending $50 on something, albeit very lovely, that I could make on my own, well, DIY style. The only difficult thing about this DIY was finding the driftwood, and even though I wanted to find the perfect piece wash up on the shores of my dreams, I ended up resorting to finding a seller online. The DIY is fairly easy and you can do pretty much what you want, to achieve the perefect size for your wall!

I started by snagging some driftwood off of Etsy, though you could probably collect your own if you live near the beach or a body of water. I found this to be a quick and affordable option that didn't require me to dry my own wood. The only other things needed were glue. twine and white vinyl mug hooks. You'll want something with a small screw at the end.

It's really as easy as tying your twine around the ends of the drift wood then gluing into place, leaving slack to bring down to another tier of driftwood and twine until you've achieved your desired length and tiers. I went with three, then spread my hooks out as evenly as I could. marking the spot before installing. The driftwood is soft so screwing your hooks in is no problem at all. To add a little something something, I painting some of the driftwood gold to bring the cool level up. You could do anything you want to snaz it up or leave it looking au natural. It's up to you.

Sponsored Craft Redux: Revisiting an Old Craft and Making It New

Back in the early days of Prim and Propah, I knew nothing about crafting the most visually stunning post but I did know something about crafting other things... ummm, like crafts! Since it's National Craft Month (Hooray!), Wayfair tasked me with finding one of my very oldest crafts, sitting at the depth of my blog feed, to do a Redux on! Well, there were some doozies down there, let me tell you but I thought the perfect one for me and the little guy to do together would be to bring new life to this old post right here. I chose this old post for a few reasons. #1 We legit lost or misplaced this star bank. As of sometime since the kid arrived, my husband and I literally have no idea where it went. I firmly believe there was at least $30 in change in there, and possibly a few dollar bills, so as you can imagine, it hurts a little to not know where it went to. #2 My son has these little snack containers that I have a really hard time throwing out (because I love a good container) but also struggle to find new purpose for them. #3 The kid just loves putting things into other things! I thought we could use the previous directions (or lack thereof) as a starting point for this new batch!

Materials Needed in addition to the box snack containers?

Pinking Shears
Fabric Shears
Tacky Glue
1/4 yard of Clearance Fabric
Scrap of matching/complimentary fabric
Embroidery Floss Fabric Paint
Needle
Small Razor Blade

\
I basically used the same method that I did to "whip" up these patchwork initials for the baby's nursery but I used larger pieces for this project to save time when I had a toddler co-worker who is often affected with a short attention span. Even though I didn't do a great job explaining the process in the original post, fabric decoupaging is something I've been doing for years! The idea that I had was to cover the base of the container with our fabrics of choice and I would trim the scraps off the side with a razor blade or scissors (not to be touched by child hands)... for ease of completion, we worked in long strips that wrapped around the snack container. I let Wes play with the glue and he did a hell of a job schmering it.

I spray painted the lids on my own, outside, without the help of a child, because, you know, CHILD. Similarly, the next step is a great childless one as it involves cutting the space where you'll put your change and dollah bills. If they really want to be involved you can do the cutting and let them poke the piece through since that's obvi the funnest part.

This is a place where you could stop if you wanted but I thought it would be cute to make three of these and have a label for each of us: Me, My Husband and the Kid... you know, saving our change for the frivolous things we like to spend money on. I was a little distracted by a child painting/coloring/having fun in the same space but I managed to hand paint some white fleece that I had hanging around. I think they came out sort of cute!

As the Propah Toddlah gets older, we're going to "spoil" him less and less (or so we've decided). We think that this is a great way to show him that he can save for something fun and earn through helping him Mama and Dad out. We're not quite there yet but at least we've got the cute containers to start!

Yoga Week, Day Two: My Quick and Easy DIY Yoga Bag

Up until just a month or so ago... oh who am I kidding... more like 3 months ago, I was still flexible enough to hit up a yoga class or roll out my yoga mat, maybe perhaps thinking about stretching... but eh, lately, putting my feet up has been more my thing... and unfortunately with a new baby in the house, putting up my feet isn't really an option. That being said, one thing I have been meaning to do for a long time, is to make a way to store my yoga mat... so it knows that I care about it and that I will be back soon ;-) Why not do it now before I don't really have the time any more? ;-) It really was such an easy process with only beginner sewing skills needed in order to make a pretty decent yoga mat bag. This is a quick and easy project that will leave you feeling accomplished. I know it made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.

DIY Nursing or Teething Necklace

I know, I know... all of my crafting lately has been centered around a certain roommate that moved in a couple of months ago. It's my life right now, OK? In any event, I was looking to order a couple of teething necklaces from Etsy or one of those other sites but after I started looking at them and some of the prices, I decided I could make myself and some of my nursing mothers each a necklace for less than one of the online versions. Mine may not be as perfect but they are satisfyingly pretty and I have to say they are pretty simple to whip up!

Spice Up Your Canvas Sneaks, an Easy DIY

Lately, I have been on a major crafty/DIY spree. I don't know if it's the fear that I won't have time to partake for awhile (due to the bun) or that I have been just plain inspired... but for whatever reason, I have been kickin' crafty ass and takin' crafty names. Today's DIY is no exception. Super easy and super affordable, I love turning a plain pair of canvas sneakers into something sassy that no one else has. I took items I had on hand, a pair of Payless sneaks and went to town. Let me know what you think after the jump:

Super Easy Pillow Making, DIY Tutorials

This past weekend, I spent some time working on the nursery. We have been cleaning out what has been a storage room since we moved into the house, this time last year. What was once full of boxes and books, is not opening up for baby furniture, a day bed and some awesome adventure themed memorabilia. The man and I had painted the room a very light beige/peach in anticipation of at some point needed a room to put a TBD baby in. After only a little discussion, we decided to take the direction of adventure/nerd/foresty themed stuff for a classy yet "us" nursery and decor. We thought this would last us a little while, will make us happy and also be stylish. The obvious first step in the decorating process? Pillows LOL... I know, my priorities are a little off... but I felt like crafting!

DIY: Design Your Own Shoes on the Cheap

I have really wanted to break up the monotony of work and household chores (the list is ever growing) with some creative juices flowing... but with the aforementioned house costing good money to furnish and decorate, and the closets needing filling ;-) I wanted to find a cheap craft to do that had a fashion twist but I didn't have to spend a ton of moola on. I thought back to when my Mom would take us to Payless and get us a pair of canvas sneakers to decorate. She'd get us a pair for every day, then let us go to town on another pair, with markers, paint, glitter... basically anything we could get our hands on. Why not do my adult version?

Wedding Crafting, Flower Votives

The other day I had a mini panic attack. It wasn't just about wedding decor but it was about the fact that I hadn't crafted any of my wedding decor. I claim to be Miss Crafty-Pants but I hadn't done anything more than shopping for shabby chic decor for my wedding tables. Well, I decided that wasn't me so I obviously took to Pinterest for inspiration. Afterall, I had been pinning things this whole wedding planning experience but hadn't put anything to good use. That was when I was reminded of a craft that I had seen on Dollar Store Crafts. She had compiled some of her favorite wedding craft finds over time and I was immediately drawn to these Rose Votive Candle Holders from Two Crafty Mules. I am not one to follow tutorials exactly so here is my take on the candle holders. You'll have to let me know what you think!
