Next Up: Tailoring

You know when you watch episodes of Project Runway and Nina Garcia comments on what excellent tailoring skills that a specific contestant possesses because they nailed a stellar blazer? Well, that's going to be this time next week. My Fall class this semester is Tailoring... and I have heard that we will create a blazer, in and out. I will be 100% perfectly honest with you that I am severely scared. I have quickly realized that I am more a "draper" if you will. I like to play around with fabric on the form and move and shake and all that jazz. I think this is one reason why I disliked pattern drafting. While I learned a lot, I felt like it was too rigid for my creative juices. In any event, this Fall should prove to be interesting and I will surely keep you all updated on my progress or my whining, either or. I think that I will end up with a somewhat wearable blazer or a somewhat frustrating complex in regard to my abilities. Let's see how the cookie crumbles.

  1. Blazers must be so hard to make, I know many beginners who haven't had the "courage" to make them within 1-2 years after starting sewing! But I'm sure you will do great, I look forward to your progress in it! :)

    Much love from Epp,

  2. I was really giving tailoring some serious thought. I want to buy a sewing machine and try out a few things too :)

  3. I cannot sew at all! LOL! Our oldest daughter is learning though! Welcome to Social Fabric!

  4. Tailoring is a valuable skill to have. I was thinking how much I like Donna Karan's fashions. Very nice draping. I am sure you will come up with something fabulous!

  5. oh! love it! can't wait to see what you come up with.

  6. I miss sewing - I used to do it in high school but haven't since. Good luck with your tailoring! Just stopping by to welcome you to the Social Fabric Community!
